Before you purchase your resonator, check to see if a stainless version is available. They are usually about double the money but look nice and won't rust.

Don't mistake a 2-cycle motorcycle/chain saw for a 2-cycle diesel. Outside of firing every time the piston comes up, there is almost nothing the same between the two types of engines. No exhaust "tuning" here.

When changing to a resonator, take the time to check your air filter restriction gauge. Since the 2-cycles use so much air, they have a very large air cleaner. Don't try to clean it as that won't work. I tried...and failed. Fairly expensive at about $70 (if you look around) but ours ran much better after installing the new one. Don't even think about modifying the air cleaner or intake tubing. Some have and dusted the engine. Only modification would be to update your U300 to the air cleaner intake up high like the late 1993 models came with (Kent Speers). Otherwise, our air cleaners suck up everything off the rear wheels and will shorten the air cleaner life drastically. I think the U280 of the same vintage have a similar problem.  If driving in the rain or damp conditions, your restriction gauge may read higher until the air cleaner dries. Remember, all three manufactures have different limits on the amount of restriction allowed before a filter change is required. Check our old posts for the numbers.

Jeff:
The Magnaflow 12771 muffler you bought is 4" in and 4" out, SS with satin finish.
The Magnaflow 12774 muffler I installed in my U320 is 5" in and 5" out, SS with satin finish.
They are both available polished for more money, but I covered mine with exhaust wrap.
I used the Magnaflow because it is not as loud as an Aero muffler. The Aero muffler is not as loud as an Aero resonator.
Some Foreforum folks installed Aero resonators and are satisfied with them.
I posted a summary of available mufflers on Foreforums several years ago.

We started with an Aero and changed to the Magnaflow.  No perceived performance change, much less loud.

I bought the Aeroflow resenator, haven't installed it yet.

Pierce- Here is what the PO did to the air cleaner on my previous coach. The Barth's suffered from the same "bad air" intake. Worked like a charm.

COOL!  Looks like one of those off road trucks modified with a snorkel for deep water crossings.

Really excellent. You see a lot of RVs that explore Baja's back roads with a high intake like this. Don't know what they were thinking with the "road scoop" the U300/U280 have. Our air cleaner housing almost had branches in it.

I had a member with a new to him U300 that had all the OEM air intake system removed and a short hose to a small K&N filter mounted next to the turbo installed. He wondered why it no longer started so well.
