Interesting roof treatment on this bus

I followed a pair of Silver Eagle conversions though town yesterday and when the one in front turned, I just had to take a pic. Interesting skylights. Hey wait. Are those...?

Verry Cool. Could you make out the logo on the side? I know a few of us 'came of age' in the back seat of a old car, wonder if the 'skylights' are so outfitted?

I may have posted this one before. Adding to the collection of great RV Rooftops. Saw this in Eugene, Oregon last year.

I do like me some Silver Eagle and that is sorta neat even though I probably wouldn't put that on my Eagle, I like it on their's.

Well I am kinda amazed that this coach was ID'd so quickly! The knowledge base on this forum is impressive. All that's left to wonder is... is it still Niel Young's coach? And if so what the heck was he doing in lil ol' Snohomish WA....

Jay,

There's something about those vintage Silver Eagles that get me excited too!  If I didn't love my U300 so much I would probably be looking around for one.  Here's a great video on classic Silver Eagles that captures the feeling set to music ( Meet me in Montana) by the late great Dan Seals and Marie Osmond from 1985.  Around 1:18 I believe is the same one in your picture.  Turn your your speakers up!

Yes, great looking with a distinctive style. They made them in Germany, Belgium and Mexico in three widths and lengths. Most had the 71 series and later, the 92 series 2 cycles but a few with M.A.N. and Cummins. As I remember, they had lots of square tubing in the compartments that was prone to rusting in earlier models. Easy fix for someone with a Sawzall and wire feed. One driver told me that his only complaint was that some of the relays, etc were mounted vertically and when they vibrated out, the bus stopped. I also remember that many (or all?) had Torsilastic suspension.

My big complaint was the Spicer 4 speed. No syncro and no granny gear for steep hills and driveways. Reverse used a sliding first gear and was a little too tall. The transmission was super reliable and lasted forever. Same tranny as my 4107 but they had a tachometer so could be shifted OK.
