Electrician is here as I'm typing. We have not repaired it yet. Is my EMS fried after this event? Will I need to purchase a new one. I'm going back outside.

Thanks

Progressive is a class act, contact them. I don't think your EMS is fried, think about WHAT could have happened without it to tip you off?

SMH in total disbelief. I couldn't bring myself to photograph the electrician while he was working.
The breaker box WAS NOT grounded to the utility company box. I watched as he snaked a ground wire from one box to the other thru the U shaped conduit. See photo. How in hell did this ever work in the first place. Owner told me previous tenant had no problems. The breaker box was installed about two years ago.

Could it possibly have been grounded to the to the bus bar inside the breaker box?

Anyway it's grounded now to the utility company side. I watched him do it. I turned my generator off and plugged in my cord, threw the 50 amp breaker. I now get an E-0 on my EMS. It's working as designed.

Thanks to all of you for your suggestions

Should not be. It is made to keep bad things from happening.  Thus the no power with open ground.

I'd still like to know if the EMS is protecting the Generator side. Did Foretravel install the EMS, or are they aftermarket? Would FT tech know?  Is that James T?

Previous tenant did not have progressive to show a problem and I guess he never got shocked.

If the picture of the meter is just the meter then all he would have had to do was put a jumper wire between the neutral and ground or install the green ground screw to tie both together.  If the box with the meter also has a main  breaker in it,  he then did the right thing since everything down from the main breaker has to have a separate ground these days.

I would say it is only on the shore power side or it would have been showing power when you were on generator.  Yes James T should know if factory installed.

Lucky tenant.
Not quite following you Turbojack. No breaker on meter side. He removed meter to gain access to the ground bus bar, thus no power. You mentioned he did the right thing. From listening to the owner and electrician I get the feeling he installed it in the first place. Thanks again for your help.

So? All good and happy? Those damn pedestals are the FIRST Place to look! The site we came into had a garbage bag over the pedestal. The 'Host' said it was because the people next door needed more power. He was full of it, as it turned out. After a CB of repairs, they fired the host, but never offered to comp the repairs.
