Why would someone resell these? Is this like someone returning it and someone local repackages it?
As a 240 lb side sleeper, I am looking more for a 3-4 inch one, but I see Michelle's point on weight. But the lifts can be doubled up and I always use a prop to as well. Just don't trust those gas filled lifts....
I measured the original mattress, 9 inches. But its pretty heavy.
The all memory foam mattresses are pretty heavy waiting on the coil filled ones to see it they are less so.
David, I watched a few youtube videos on the Purple beds, pretty innovative.

They have returns.. purple sends them through a cleaning process like all other returns.. mattress can go to a second hand store after cleaning. Can not be resold as new. Most people who resell these pick them up from the factory.. unless you see them as a for sale by owner

Don't overlook a need to address the piano hinge at the head of the bed.  IIRC some folks had that pull out when they beefed up the gas struts that help with raising the platform.

I went to a foam shop and had my mattress made, 4 inches soft foam and 2 inches of memory foam I love it. It is a lot lighter than
the original. I was at a RV show last week and there was a foam shop there and I found a system that I think is better than mine.
What I like about foam shops is that you can piece the bed together to fit your likes as we don't all like the same bed.
