1987 Grand Villa Dash AC Compressor Missing

Does anyone have a picture or can take one of the AC compressor used on the Cat 3208t engines in the older late 80's Grand Villas?

I just purchased a 1987 Grand Villa with the Caterpillar 3208t engine. The dash air conditioner compressor has been removed so I don't know what it looks like or what mode model number it might be to either find one or to be able to cross reference to something that I can make work. I found one that looks like it might work but I don't want to spend $250 on something that doesn't fit.

I would greatly appreciate the help.

Thank you

I  have the dash air conditioner and it works, I misunderstood your question to me,  I posted a piccy of the engine compressor,
Which I thought you wanted,
Where would I find the dash compressor that you require a piccy of, I can certainly take a Piccy of it and post it up for you,
I just dont know where it is,

Brian,

A/C compressor runs off one of the accessory belts on the "front" of the engine.  Look around the engine toward the rear of the coach - perhaps on the other side of the alternator, opposite where the engine air compressor is mounted.  You should see it.

I hope someone can post a picture of exactly what you need. Short of that I can tell you that your original system almost certainly used R12 and that the compressor was likely a Sanden, perhaps an SD7H15. Have you checked with Foretravel to see if they can provide the details of what was originally on your coach?

My post just went missing, Ive lost it,
Now I know what I am looking for, I will find it,
I do have the Dash A/C. I just didnt know it was A/C,
I only used it for heating, Never cooling,
Its a very large unit, 18 x 18 inches approx,
I did think it strange that such a large unit was only for hot and cold, And the piping looked like A/C piping,
I just never really looked at it, It worked well on heating,  Very large heating coil inside with hot water from the motor,
I am learning lots about this Coach, Accidentely, And the learned people on here,

Its 1-00 AM Sunday here so I will take piccys in the morning, Plus any numbers I can find on them both,

What is a D2 Govenor and what does it do, The one on the Engine Air compressor, ?????????

The D2 governor controls the air compressor to maintain the proper air system pressure which is typically 105 to 125 PSI or so. (It is adjustable to different ranges.)

As I recall my '87 Foretravel used 1986 Chrysler Newport controls so I would imagine the compressor would be from a 1986 Newport.

That's a possibility but the choice of dash controls is typically based upon what looks and fits best on the dash while the choice of compressor is based upon whatever mounts most easily on the engine. Sanden compressors and the mounts for them are among the most commonly used. The dash control typically just turns the compressor clutch on and off and so it's easy to mix different controls and compressors.

My 3208 AC compressor was the lowest mounted pulley and the only single belt .
I removed it to add another alternator.      You can see the area that it mounts to directly under the rear bumper. There may be a picture of the alt in the" fridge through door "thread.
I was pretty sure that the combination of R12 along with 30yrs old parts would result in a continual battle to keep it working.  I simply run the genset and front overhead unit  when needed. .
I could totally see installing a micro split system in the nose in place of the OE unit.

I've done R134a retrofits of older R12 systems with good results. It requiresg ood attention to detail and some new parts but it can be done if one is determined.

We all have different preferences. I prefer to use the dash air when it's sufficient and so I like to keep the engin-driven system functional.

That is the compressor part number on the parts page the diesel Kiki compressor number. I replaced mine a couple months back and Dallas truck air crosses the number for me. I converted it to 134 just drove it 30 hours last month and cooled fine till the fan motor went out.
