oil leak ISM 450

good afternoon everyone,
I have an oil leak on the forward part of the engine coming from a rubber grommet for a wire bundle. It's just below the valve cover.
I think the oil is making its was down the protective sleeve for the bundle and coming out just above the starter and "almost" dripping off the starter underneath. I have not seen it drip yet.
Does anyone know what these wires are for and how deep into the engine do they go?
How difficult would it be to change this grommet?.

Looks like the "O" rings that seals off the bulkhead fitting to the head is in need of replacement. Those wires are what  transport the signal from ECM to injector  and makes the injectors open. This is not a big job to DIY.  While you have the valve cover off you might think about checking your rocker arm/ valve clearance.  Someone has recently done the same thing and posted pics. I'll look around and see if I can find the thread.

There was a thread on this that I can't find. It gave the part number of the grommet and I ordered one. I will try to find my receipt for it.

My original problem was the ear on the round electrical plug would not engage..Changed Orings 2 times and worked for a minute.. I ordered the round plug and a special tool to remove the Pins on the plug and replaced with the new plug... tedious.. did 1 pin at a time so as to not get it wrong and It worked.. I started working and went Right to left with the pics.. then the phone started ringing off the hook as soon as I was about 5 pins in... turned it off after the 5th call... Always happens when I am busy!!

You could caulk the oring from underneath the plug and seal it up.. I think.

In case you need it. I have the pin remover screwdriver also if needed

thanks everyone for your input.
David thanks for your offer.

it's been a long time that a had to replace a "canon plug".  I have an appt on Monday with Cummins to see what they say. My biggest worry is taking the valve cover off. Do I need a new gasket? is there anything else that needs to be removed?

I will update my signature soon.

My valve cover gasket was original and it was in perfect shape.. I think I have an extra I had bought when my original thought was a leaky gasket..

The "trick" to the orange rubber seal is to not overtighten, valve cover should not touch the head.

ISM valve cover gasket has grommets inside that the bolt goes through that will not allow the compression of the gasket or the cover to compress to far. Careful when removing.. bolts, washers, Grommets and brackets are on some of the bolts holding harnesses and supports.
