                                                                          UPDATED

Decided to make it simple sweet. My mind started racing (pun intended) when I was figuring how to make it bluetooth on/off!

Used some small LED's (left over 1" long cut off strips from overhead lights I rebuilt). Silicone into place.

You need to notch out the back of the rubber center pad with a razor knife to clear the switch connections. Dremel tool cut the switch hole.

A 9 volt battery, which keeps the LED's cool/cold, but doesn't quite allow the cover back on. Battery is about a 1/8" too thick. A guy could notch the rubber cover for it to fit. Going to velcro it onto the outside back of steering wheel center.

Took about 1hr to do this once I figured it out.

I did order a rechargeable nicad for a RC toy's, from the company listed in my prior post. It's close to the size of the 9 volt, if it fits inside cover, I will but it there, otherwise it will velcro to the back side. No biggie.BTW, JST connectors is what's on the LED's. And also on the battery I ordered, JTS connector cable for batt charger on back order.

Admiral 600mAh 3S 11.1V 25C LiPo Battery with JST Connector – Motion RC

* Note, you have to run the wires from the LED's out the same hole as the board plug, or module won't fit back in the wheel housing

This is a good direction in my opinion. Please let us know how you like in operation at night, if it's too bright or too dim or if it's good. I'm concerned it's a lot of light. I used 1/2 of the same LEDs for my step light. Battery life and charging requirements?
Thanks for taking it on and doing it!

The amount of light is perfect, they are not too bright. May change my gauge lights to LED, I have some.

As much as I drive at night, the nicad will probably last forever. I decided this morning after I slept on it, once I get the nicad, which is slightly larger then a 9 volt, I'am probably going to cut out the rubber on the center piece back, and put it there. There is some metal behind the rubber in some area's, so hang tight on that.

I would then hang a charger plug, slight out the allen screw hole, so I can charge it remotely. Motion RC has the charger, and the charge cable in stock. Have not ordered them yet.

                                                                                 FINAL UPDATE

Got the RC nicad battery yesterday, finished today. I didn't realize (wasn't pictured) it came with balanced charge plug. But not long enough to hang out the allen bolt hole.

I did cut the pad out, one allen bolt removal at the bottom of pad, then pull then pad off for plenty of access to battery to charge it.

Like I mentioned earlier, a 9 volt battery works fine, save about $30.00 going that route. I just figured the Nicad will last longer.

One thing I thought of when done. A person could have them on, without the headlights. Makes it super easy to see them.

In real life, they are cleaner then the picture. Low light fooled my camera

Here is the Charger $11.99:

SkyRC e3 11W 3 Cell (3S) Compact AC LiPo Battery Charger – Motion RC

Battery $7.99:

Admiral 600mAh 3S 11.1V 25C LiPo Battery with JST Connector – Motion RC

Chris, to get the wheel cover off do you unscrew the 4 screws from under the wheel and get to the back ones by pulling down the plastic cover and turning a bit to lock it in place while working?

Hi John
There are 8 little screws up in the pods (4 in each), then 2 big ones toward center. Once those are out, pull the allen in the center pad to take the pad off.

Once you do that, you unplug 2 wires, and the plastic with switches comes off.

It's really all very easy.

I didn't lock the steering wheel

Thx,I have had the switches off but wondered about the 4 bigger screws under wheel. 2 under the area of the horn pad and one on each side of the center of column. I did not know about the centre Foretravel decal being able to come off to show that other Allen screw you mention.

Which wheel do you have? I didn't take the FT sticker off, the allen for the pad is inside the hole in the bottom center of the plastic on an angle inside. It's doesn't need to come off, to get the plastic off.

My wheel only has 2 larger screws each side of columum . Maybe your wheel is different?
