Brett,
Think we all understand that.  It is the choice of wording that we are attempting to figure out, i.e. not to use ether because there is a "Flame Heater in Use".

Brett,
Are you saying that my ISM 450 in my 2000 U320 has the 12 vdc heater?  If so, is it something that is on all the time or just for a short time when I turn on my key to start?  I have no dash indicator telling me this.  How long should I wait after turning on my key before cranking the engine?
Thanks!
Paul

Paul, you do not have one.  I had to use ether to start my twin to yours one time. The engine position sensor would not let fuel start so that was the only alternative. My 8.3 ISC in my 99 did have one though.
I remember looking in your engine compartment and seeing the ether bottle in there too.

John,

I knew I had the ether bottle, but from the way this thread was going I was beginning to wonder if I had both the ether and the heater.  I too have used ether once or twice and I certainly was not aware of any flames, but then who knows.

Thanks for confirming that.

Dave, I understand what you are saying re ether. I have it but have only used it two times total. One was when my engine position sensor failed and i was on low land near the ocean and a flooding storm was on the way. The second time was to restart the motorhome to drive it down to cummins to get the EPS fixed.  I was glad to be able to use it but have not made a habit of it.
