At the back of this switch there are two terminals. One of them has +12volts from the start battery all the time. I made a little harness to allow me to use a spade connector and run a wire from that terminal to the sense post on the alternator. No relays needed.Craig Quote Selected
Re: Alternator rebuild Reply #26 – September 01, 2012, 01:00:56 am I think you will find that battery voltage at the remote start is lower than the voltage reading at the battery itself. Alternator will output correct charge voltage only when it 'knows' the exact voltage of the battery. Quote Selected
Re: Alternator rebuild Reply #27 – September 07, 2012, 05:42:28 am Looks like a glitch has turned up. I went out tonight to check things and found the chassis batteries were drained.Would the direct 12v line from the chassis batteries to the DUVAC terminal on the alternator, drain the batteries?Looks like I will have to find a switched source. No, properly connected, it should not drain your battery. I was under the impression that you did not purchase a Duvac alternator. What is the model number of it? Duvac alt has four terminals. One ground wire. One output wire that runs to center term on isolator. One remote turn on term that should only be energized when key is on. One sense wire that is, essentially, connected directly to battery bank and is hot all the time. No jumper wires between terms. Chuck Quote Selected

Re: Alternator rebuild Reply #32 – September 08, 2012, 08:47:22 am This from the Prestolite tech service forum. Good day, what makes this complicated is that there is probably a battery isolator involved, which should if working correctly, should keep the batteries from going down. The battery isolator will also keep power from going to the alternator. First I would make sure that the ignition terminal has power that goes off and on with the key. Then I would make sure the battery isolator is working properly. And if you still have a draw, remove the wire labeled either remote sense/Duvac and see if your problem goes away. If after disconnecting the sense wire, and you are sure there is no power to the ignition terminal then make sure you have no power to the positive stud, then your problem is some where else. I can't make any further suggestions without the model number of the alternator and the regulator. If you are capable of doing the checks above the problem will be revealed. If not, it might be time for Floyd's Electric. Quote Selected
