Engine Maintenance - Stop Engine

With the great advise and experience I get from the Forum, I installed a new water pump (old water pump was leaking) and tensioner. Did not realize it would be that easy. Replaced the lost coolant with Rotella ELC.

Started the engine and got an "engine maintenance" light. A few seconds later a "stop engine " light came on which I did.

I assume the engine should have produced a fault code from this event.

How do I determine the fault code if one was generated?

Any suggestions or experiences with similar problems? Could this be associated with the water pump leak and replacement?

More than likely there is an air lock and it is detecting low water in rad. Start again and see if it changes.

You will need a shop or special reader to clear the fault code as it will be stored in the computer if it's like ours. Won't effect starting or running. Just like a diary only electronic.

Another good reason for a VMSpc.  You always get instant info on current faults, along with everything else.

Probably an airlock but you can read the blink codes or get Silverleaf. A reader is expensive and with the Silverleaf you will have it in the coach from now on.

In changing a water pump or anytime you drain the anti freeze you must be care full that all the air has got past the thermostat. An air lock can damage the engine.

How do I know if it has an air lock?

I did start the engine again and the problem did not clear up.

Why don't you go to the local Cummings shop and tell them what you did and what you have now? Ask them what they do after they change a water pump or drain the coolent for service.

Did you get it up to temperature to open the thermostat?? Do you not have an air release valve on the tubing? Crack a couple of rubber tubes clamps to see if air comes out.or email Brett he answers right away

I shut it down as soon as the stop engine light came on.

The first time the engine died or shut down own it's own as I had walked back to check for leaks after changing the water pump.

I will ck for an air release valve or try to loosen a hose to ck for air. I did start to remove the radiator cap but it had pressure on it so I chose to add coolant through the overflow.

I would say if it shut itself down you do have air or the engine thinks level is dangerously low. My frien here in his C Coach just had the same thing happen as the circulating pump was leaking bad and level dropped enough eng shut down.
