How to close engine hatch

Stupid Question #3.  How do you release the engine hatch on a 1999 u270 to close it?

On my 99 I just pulled the bottom forward and it came down.

Yes, the OE gas springs did not have a "hold open" catch/lock.

But, there are gas springs with that option-- could have been installed by a previous owner.

So, I would look closely at the two gas springs, and if you do not see a lock, just try to pull it down.

What John said.  Don't feel badly (i.e., "Stupid Question #3). The same thing baffled me when I was doing an inspection on our coach prior to purchase.  Had to call the owner.

There is a name for the engine hatch design that someone more technical than I am can tell you.  But if you just pull the bottom out toward you, not straight down, it proceeds downward in a kind of shallow arc.

Just be careful—it's heavy coming down.  Ease it down on the two "stops," left and right at the bottom.  Then push in the top.

Pantograph, or pantographic hinge.  Here is another clever application of the same design principle, by one of our Forum members:
