1992 U-225 Generator removal

Looking for assistance on how to remove the gen set on our 1992 U225 home.  Propane Onan Emerald Plus 6500 unit needs starter and a tune up.  Can't find any information on this problem.  Thanks in advance.

Assume it is like the 1993 U240-- just behind front left tire on slides.

Pretty easy to disconnect propane and electrical remove two bolts (and tail pipe as I recall) and pull it out.  Easier if you have a jack or built up platform to slide it onto.

What are your generator symptoms?

How many hours in it?

I have a '93 U225. I replaced the starter, solenoid valve, spark plugs, regulator without removing the generator. I just removed the stops and slid the tray out. I did have to remove the cover, exhaust pipe, etc. to get to the regulator; but, none of that was too difficult.

My early 92 U225 (built June 1991) has propane generator bolted in - no slide.  Had to remove some panels (long story behind that) and drop genset to the ground, then slide it out to service - took it to a service shop. (a long time ago, can't remember whether it was for starter replacement or circuit board.)

Same with my U240. BTW, that propane Onan is the quietest gen set I've ever heard! I do notice it's due for a insulation re-do, though.  :facepalm:

;D  After thirty+ years in the music biz, I would not be surprised ! In pic # 2, you can see where the insulation is trashed. In both my SOB coaches, I had Onans that were noisy as all get out; could not have a conversation outside. This one is actually hard to hear/feel inside! A chain in the last shot, not sure what it does, but I'm leavin' it in!

Mike,

Your furnace (and its hot exhaust) is just above the generator bay.  The chain was factory original to make sure that the furnace could not burn the door.

It can easily be slipped off ("S" end link) when servicing the generator.

Thanks all for the great advice.  Will get the starter replaced now.
