Belt Change Question
Today I was changing my belts and hoses on my 2001 8.3 Cummins. All was going well, hoses were done and I was putting on the belts when my "helpful" neighbor dropped by. Long story short, we got into a discussion and the belts and he was adamant that the main serpentine belt needed to be synced together between the two main pulleys ( upper and lower). I questioned him saying that if you lost a belt on the highway and pulled over to changed it, there was no way the two main pulleys ( upper and lower) would be in sync with each other.
I tried to explain to him that I felt he was referring to a timing belt on a car that dives the cam.
Feel I was correct, but he got me wondering. Am I correct ?
Thanks to all.
