Aqua hot.....ouch!

Hi again,

I have been trying to run all of the gremlins out of my new coach and have ran into a rather expensive one!!
When I added water to the coach I found that the water was flowing out the over flow of the aqua hot. I opened the access panel and saw nothing so I am assuming it was not winterized correctly and the water exchanger was comprised. I then disconnected the water and tied them together and was able to resolve all other water line issues.
Fast forward to today when I called aqua hot.  It seems that everything else about the aqua hot is working so I was not expecting what I was told. To rebuild my unit it is going to cost $8000 plus shipping.
Has anyone found an alternative to repair these? A hot shower in the winter would be nice!!

You need to speak to Rudy who is a member on here.  He fixes them.

Second on checking with Rudy. There is a post somewhere about a couple of guys in Canada who showed how to replace the copper tubing around the Aqua Hot tank. Not an easy DYI job.

Sorry to hear of the failure in your fresh water loop.  The linked repair is a fine way to solve this at the least cost.  It requires very good skills but not rocket science skills.

A reman heater is $8000 plus $400 shipping to have your heater shipped to Aqua Hot, remanned and shipped back.  Removal and re-install is on you and can be done by you or hired, your choice.  Takes 8 to 12 hours labor for R&R.  You will expend this labor to repair the coil or reman the heater.

If you choose to reman your heater, contact me.  I can offer suggestons and save you some money too.

All the best is fixing the heater.

Mike (zmotorsports) over on iRV2 describes in post #1 of his lengthy mods post, a repair he did to his aquahot. At least in his case it was a cracked soldered/brazed joint that he was able to fix himself. Now he can fix anything, but this didn't sound like it required a master mechanic.

There is the hurricane diesel heater that my cousin has in his boat for ten years and he just runs it. If you type in Hurricane diesel heater on line you will find it. The biggest one I saw on line was under $6000  can.

If it is the filler tube leaking where it is connected to the top of the coolant tank there is a fix for this.  Rudy is familiar with this, give him a call.

Farrarkc,
If you are up to the job you can take it out and rebuild it yourself.  We had a member that rebuilt theirs, Rob and Matthew. Either way you need to take it out to send it in for repairs.

Didn't know the aqua hot had a overflow....that would leak if you added water to it. I'm for fixing it yourself if you can.
