Docking lights

Last night we had a fairly new MH pull in next to us. Since the sites are quite narrow, a couple of us were helping him back in. I turned on my driver's side docking lights, and he had both sets of his docking lights on. His are LED, while mine are the old-fashioned kind. We were comparing the light pattern, and we both noted that his were brighter, but mine spread the light more. As I thought about it, I wondered if a combination of the two might be a good mix. I'm thinking that the old-style bulbs at the front, providing a wide light, and the LED at the rear, providing a brighter light, may be a good mix. Of course, this is only the third time that I've had those lights on to actually provide light.

What think ye? FWIW, I have the round bulbs.

Those lights (including the LED ones) can be designed with a spot, flood or trapezoidal beam patern. Eiether a flood or trapezoidal pattern would probably work well. It would be good to try both patterns to determine the better pattern for your use.

Our round LED dock lights give a good pattern and use way less juice. The OEMs were almost like landing lights and popped the breakers all the time. Pretty easy R&R with about 95% of the holes matching but you do have to do a little work.
