Muffler

I replaced my muffler.  I got the replacement from FT.  It is different than the old one.
We had to do some fabrication to make it work.
The only problem is that it sounds louder when I am accelerating.
Brad from FT said this is the one they are using now.

Any comments

Louder generally means less restriction= more power/faster turbo spool up.

Many have moved from the OE very heavy muffler to less restrictive ones.

What make/model are you installing?

It was an Aero brand.  Not sure of any more specifics.

Here is the muffler and tailpipe.  It was still under wraps at that point.  We had to shorten the tail pipe and used about 4 90 degree elbows and one 15 degree.  He welded the 3 90 together and used the 15 degree to position the tailpipe out the back.
My chrome pipe at the end was also rusted.  So we just used the curved end of the tailpipe out the  back.

And if it's a little too loud for you, the Magnaflow is a touch more civilized.

If you search the forum for "resonator" you can read more about the different installations and impressions.  (spoiler - we originally had an Aero 5050 installed on our '03 and swapped for a "Magnaflow Performance Exhaust 12774 Stainless Steel Muffler; 7 in. Round Body").

Looks like the 'Zon has a decent price on the Magnaflow we used  Amazon.com: MagnaFlow 7in Round Center/Center Performance Muffler 12774 -...

I have saved that for future reference, if the sound gets on my nerves.

Thanks

Michelle, can you give an idea of the sound difference between the Aero and Magnaflow?  I am just getting ready to remove the giant muffler and go the resonator route and have been hesitant because I'm not sure which is the quietest, or maybe better said, least loudest.

Magnaflow is definitely quieter than the Aero 5050XL.  Still throaty, but we no longer cringed driving past the neighborhood softball field when a game was in progress.

Just a note. The magnaflow 5" actually necks down to 4" inside. I installed on mine and it is noticeable louder yet undetectable inside the coach. Will notice going through tunnels or next to walls with the windows open. For me it seems okay and the reduced heat mass definitely is noticeable after shut down. If needed I would replace with the same again. Hope that helps.

The PO had installed an arrow 50-50 on my coach when we got it. It is louder, but I cannot hear it sitting in the driver seat unless I'm next to a concrete wall or in a tunnel so it is tolerable. One thing for sure I won't be sneaking out of the campground unnoticed, but I try my best to be a good neighbor when I leave. I have no complaints with it. The bedroom does seem cooler when we get stopped.

The aero 50/50 is 5" all the way through.  Noticeable increase in low and mid rpm torque. M11 used to downshift a lot under load.  Changing the cooling fan controller to not have the fan run at full high speed all the time freed up up to 50+ hp then the less back pressure resonator added to the low power and changed the way the coach drove for the better.  Plus around 1+mpg.

What change did you make to the cooling fan controller?
