Ozone injector for fresh water tank??

I had a hot tub once that had an ozone generator/injector, and man did that thing keep the water clean and fresh without hardly any added chemicals.

Was wondering if anyone had tried one of those gizmos in their fresh water tank?  Mine is starting to smell a little ripe and I don't want to throw clorox or any other added carcinogens in there.

Most of the units I see on the jungle website for hot tubs are less than a benjamin.

I could plumb it into the defunct Javalina tank level sensor fitting port.  Whaddaya all think?  Honestly....

You may want to research what type of plastics will come in contact with the ozone you generate.  Many plastics are not compatable and leads to early breakdown and failure.

When we are using the coach, we always use the pump and fresh water tank. Thus, it gets refilled all the time. No stagnant water, ever.

Why not just clean the tank with a chlorine solution and then flush it out? Flushing it should remove any excess chlorine, and if you use the pump and tank exclusively, rather than running directly off the city water supply, there should be enough chlorine in the city water you fill with to keep it fresh.

How old is the water in your tank?
After a month it should be replaced.
Vinegar is safe and like to use when needed.

I believe you would need to set up a circulating pump for the O3 to be effective.  I also agree that it would do a superb job of disinfection.  Just would need to be run occasionally but very handy for some of those rather dodgy water sources we run across.  Not to mention filling the tank after the whiz kids who try to wash out their black tanks by tying onto fresh water lines with no backflow protection.
Now you've got me considering it.  We used these somewhat larger generators by the dozens at the Mariculture lab I worked at.  Never saw any resultant plastic failure, but we took great pains to prevent ozone leaks into free air, which I expect would degrade plastic.....along with your lungs if breathed in.

I live in my coach full time and only fill the tank and pressurize off the pump, never outside hook up.  A tank of water lasts me about a month unless I do laundry, then it's 2 weeks.  The water coming out of the tap doesn't smell bad, but it does have an odor...sort of like clean creek or river water???  I use an RO water maker with UV final for drinking and ice, so I'm not worried...just trying to improve my coach and it's lot in life, especially in the shower....actually looked at whole house RO systems like boats use....muy dinero bro.

I treated my fresh tank once a few years back with StarSan, a brewers sanitizer, and it seemed to help, but after replacing almost every valve and pressure device in the past 3 years, I've decided not to put ANY chemicals in any of my tanks ever again.  Chlorine is so caustic that anyone using it should cease this practice immediately unless you know the exact ppm you are putting in there.  Vinegar is acidic, it too will degrade plastics and rubber components in your water system.  I once poured it into my toilet to sanitize and to cut hard water buildup, and it dissolved my flapper gasket.  I can't believe folks use it to de-scale their hot water systems...that may be why my Aquahot blew a hole in it from PO's treatments. FYI, HappyCampers was my go to toilet additive until I found it is very caustic and had eaten all my drain valve rubbers...AGAIN.  Now I use an enzyme additive with perfect results.

Here's what BeamAlarm had on water treatments and was surprised to see ozone as one of the options....

I agree with Chuck that a circulating pump would be ideal, but in my hot tub, it just injected ozone into the main plumbing drain pipe and it bubbled away full time. That tub stayed really clean for years with very little spa chemistry required.

Still waiting to see if anyone has tried ozone vs. opines.  Thanks for the feedback tho as it still has me wondering.  W.
