Dean - we just verified the bag size for Dick S.  Sorbent has changed their item numbers and I've edited my original post for clarity.  We used 5.25" x 5.5" open zip end mylar foil bags, 055MFD0525OZE, which is now item "P" on the Sorbent site.  The next size up, if otherwise the same (open zip end, closed/sealed the other 3 sides), 55MFS07OZE aka current bag "Q" is presently available as 100 count for 50 cents apiece.

             Thanks Michelle, I haven't ordered anything yet because I was trying to figure out what to do with 980 extra bags. :)  I like you guy's idea of bulk purchase and bagging of the stuff so after a little Google search I found this site.

          Not sure if the bags are the same quality as Sobent's but they seem cheap enough for a small quantity (20 count = $4.49).

                    Ordered the desiccant from Sorbent Systems and the Mylar bags from Mylarbagsdiect.com. I said to Dee this morning, "Hey let's get that Foodsaver you have been wanting." I didn't tell her what changed my mind........ :-X

Hmmm... we could have the makings of a craft session at the Grandvention this fall ;)

For what it is worth: A company I worked for built and shipped metalworking machines for the government--to Level A Milspec crating. The gov't inspector was going to fail us when he saw a worker put desiccant pkgs in the electrical panels. His explanation? The desiccant sitting out unsealed had soaked up moisture. He would pass us if we baked out the moisture by "cooking" the opened pkgs in an over at 250 degrees for an hour.

We plan to do that after we've accumulated a fair amount of spent desiccant (time will vary depending on the oven; we'll need to watch for the indicator crystals to change back to blue).  Seems more cost effective to wait until there's multiple doses to bake out and re-bag in the moisture barrier bags rather than run the oven for an hour for just 4 ounces (one dose). 

The OEM stuff is around $50/4 ounces and the self-bagged Sorbent desiccant comes to around $2.50/4 ounces hence the interest in finding the lower cost option.

                  Yep, but you should call it  "The Great way to save alot of Money Craft Session".

      There's nothing more fun than doing something you enjoy while saving a bundle at the same time. Of course I like to can green beans too so maybe it's just me. ;D
