Does any one tow the GMC Terrain

Thinking of moving up to the Terrain for a tow car.  Is anyone towing the Terrain.  Would be 2012 4 cyl,
My HHR all I have to do is put in neutral/key to acces/remove fuse.  How is the Terrain to tow??? DAN

We towed a 2011 Terrain for the last 14 months ... until last Tuesday, when we opted for a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited!  The Terrain was very easy to tow and has great storage capacity and wonderful leg room.  We also added the SMI Air Force One braking system.  Run the transmission thru the gears, going lastly from D to Neutral, turn off the key.  Pull a 5 amp fuse and you are good to go.  I was told that GM and Honda traded some technology back during the years when GM was producing the Saturn.  Part of what they got from Honda was the transmission, so it is sort of on a par with the CR-V. If we were going more than 200 miles or so I would jump in the car during a rest stop and go through the gears again just to keep things lubricated.  We had no problems and found the car to be very comfortable.  What I WOULD have done differently is to have bought the 6 cylinder instead of the 4.  It was OK ... but I would have been a lot happier with the 6.

I was looking at the 4 cyl but does it have a lack of power.  I get that with my HHR at times.  Would a 6 in all wheel drive be worth the price?  DAN

We've been towing a 2010 Equinox for two years.  At the time there were only minor sheet metal differences with the Terrain.  At least for the 2010, only the 4 cyl could be towed 4 wheels down.  Ours is AWD, which has been handy a couple of times.  We also have the AF1 brake system mentioned earlier.

I have been surprised at the pep of the 4 cyl.  Having said that, it definitely lacks get-up at highway speeds.  For example, accelerating from 65 mph to pass a vehicle will require the trans to downshift from 6th, maybe two gears if one is as impatient as me.  At that point it'll be screaming pretty good.  It has held up well to fairly hard driving  So far we've had no warranty issues at all - that's a first for me.  We have about 35K mile driving and about 15K towing at this time.

One frustrating thing is it has no trans dipstick.  One fills to the level of a port on the side of the trans.  I had the fluid changed and tested at about 25K.  It seemed a little off-color, but tested fine by Blackstone Labs.

Hope that helps,

Thanks for the comments on the new Jeep....NOW, since I have my new toy, wonder what DW has in store for me. Already bought her 3 Foretravels; hopefully, a 06-07 Phenix won't come on the market.  :D :o :P :)) ^.^d
