LED tutorial

I ran across this 'LED Guide' on my trawler list and found it informative.
Finally found out what a 'Buck Power Converter' is.

@Elliot Very interesting paper. The 'Buck Power Converter' is new to me. Sounds like the way to go. Thanks for posting.

I can see both sides of the quality vs cheap argument. Buy the expensive "quality" bulbs and not have to worry about them or take a chance and buy the cheap Chinese bulbs in bulk off of ebay and replace when they fail.

I've already gone down the latter path and replaced my Thin-Lite florescents with cheap Chinese strip lights via the Pierce method LED Interior Lights Conversion. So far they have held up well. When I started changing out the lights I was paying close to $30 for a 5 meter roll. Last month I paid $11 a roll. White 5M 3528 SMD 600LED 120LED M Flexible Light Strip | eBay Pierce recommends the "warm white" but I've tried warm white, cool white and white and Dori and I like the "white" best so I'm in the process of trading out my "warm white" for "white". The "warm white" have a yellow hue to them that we didn't care for. The "cool white" have a blue hue. The "white" have just a slight blue hue that we like better. To each their own...

One tip. Each supplier seems to have slightly different lights so it's better to order all you think you will need at the same time from the same supplier. I ordered 8 rolls last month! I plan to add them to my bays once I figure out a way to mount them.

Edited to add picture.
I used 2 rows of strips lights per fixture and added a switch to one row to control brightness.

I applied my LED strips to the bulb, like you set up better. Think I will do te rest "your way".

Ken,

Know what you mean about the color. I was really happy with my first couple of "warm" white rolls but then got a roll that started warm white but suddenly half way through, it went to a less pleasant warmer yellow color. Now thinking about re-doing the ceiling lights one row warm and the row next to it bright white.

I wish each roll would have the Kelvin temp listed.

Can't remember the date I first installed mine but have had no failures so far.
