Roadside Assistance

I am in the process of buying a motorcoach and wonder what options are available for roadside assistance if required..like Good Sam RV Roadside Assistance for example. I would like to hear good and bad scenarios, so I can be well informed when I make my choice. Thanks for all the info that you can provide!!................Rick

I'm no expert, haven't had to use it so far, but everyone seems to like Coach Net.

Another vote for CoachNet.  They get many good reviews.  Our personal experience- once you sign up for CoachNet, you won't have any problems on the road for  7 (and hopefully more) years ;D  ;D .

I have had both Good Sam and Coach Net. The sad thing is now Coach Net is using the same service that Camping world is using.

Coach Net would be my choice. They were very helpful when we had to have the 03 Country Coach Intrigue and 04 U320 towed. Once for the CC and twice for the U320.

My vote is for CoachNet, I have used them once to have a tire changed. Very professional.

We have used both Good Sam and Coach Net with equal success. I think you are fine with either one. They are both worth their cost if you ever need them.

A heavy truck towing operator told me he won't tow for Good Sam anymore, and he said a lot of other companies won't either. This is only hearsay because I don't have Good Sam so I don't know from personal experience. Probably someone on this forum can talk from personal experience though. One thing I can say from personal experience, don't EVER let the tow truck disconnect from your rig until you're absolutely sure the place he towed you to will fix your rig. Once the tow truck dumps you there you have to pay for additional towing to another place out of your own pocket.

If you are a veteran you can get USAA.  They have Progressive underwrite motorhomes for them now but, you can get their roadside assistance for $1.00 USD per vehicle each 6 months.  A couple of years back I called the 800 number after I chaffed a hydro line and lost radiator fan and they towed me over 50 miles.  I have used it on my motorcycle once also.  David

I would check your rv insurance. In my case roadside insurance is part of the coverage. The above I'm sure are all good but you might be buying something you already paid for.

We've had Coach Net for years. Had to call two or three times with SOBs for tech help and we were satisfied.
We used them in 2013  to arrange to tow our 2012 Nimbus from the side of I10 30 mi W. of  New Orleans. Tow truck arrived one hour later. Excellent service.

I have used coach net before when we were in Canada and the valve on our coach broke and they had to send a weaker 500 miles to get me and the tow for 600 miles to Montreal. The response was great and we were in Montreal within days. The cost for the weaker was $3900.00 and that was covered in our contract. Try that with some of the others. Thanks coach net jim

One thing we have found out, Coach-Net will not pay for the tow if you put gasoline in a diesel (don't ask), Good SAMs will.

This should go without saying, but when the tow truck driver arrives be very polite to him. He came to help you after all. Don't yell "What took you so long!" and don't complain if he photographs the entire exterior of your coach before he hooks up to it, and please don't accuse him of damage unless you're absolutely sure he did it. Years of bad experiences have given motor coach owners a terrible reputation with tow truck operators. Some of them will turn around and leave you there on the side of the road at the first sign of trouble... This is what a tow truck operator told me... So please do your part to clean up our reputation because eventually we'll all need the help of a tow truck.

FMCA offers a road assistance option to members as well ($99/year).  I'm not familiar with the new provider (Vehicle Administrative Systems); I recall FMCA used to offer Coach-Net.  Coach-Net is part of National Motor Club so it's not the same provider with a new name.

FYI, according to RV Business, Good Sam has a long-term agreement with Allstate, so it's not the same provider as Coach-Net

I have found it doesn't cost a thin dime to be polite, be nice, be complimentary, or say thank you; and yet the return on that "investment" can absolutely stun you. I have had it happen many times and never regretted it.
