Good Sam ERS (split from another topic)

Ok... Update.. for today

I called Allstate inquiring about coach road service..  they will only tow you to the closest repair facilty.. no thanks, have a nice day..  Then called Good Sams...  the platinum plus was 179.  but 159 for new members..  Will tow you to anywhere you want for up to 100 miles... mine will be towed to my home if I'm within a couple hundred miles..  also, family is covered on their cars and any of your personal vehicles or if I understood him correctly any car your driving?  pretty good deal.. :)

I ran around picking up supplies this morning.  opted to not use the distilled water.. I bought 6 more gallons Napa green with low silica..  just to get me home... they ended being about 10 bucks a gallon with the buy a napa 5 gallon bucket for 3.99 and fill it with 3 or more items an get 20% off the total special... it took a total of 4.5 gallons of antifreeze

The Onan 7.5 Generator was 3 quarts low on oil....  32 oz's low on coolant.. I cranked it and let it run then for 5 minutes.. she purr's...  :)

Bought a concave mirror and siliconed it in place temporarily.. just to get me home..

Had some bad connections going on with the Detroit, so started over..  cleaned and check all battery connections again.. plus removed all cables running to the starter.. one hot and 3 ground.. sanded the connections and put them back.. and the ground to the motor block and coach frame

She was turning over good now...  cranked it 15 seconds, waited 60 seconds, cranked it 15 seconds again
and she fired up.. !!!!  wow..  she sounds great..!!

The compressor on the Detroit is not  pumping up the air... so...  I am assuming its the relay off to the side of the compressor that's not kicking in..  its stuck open an just letting the air bypass..  with the Detroit running, I tried tapping on the side of the relay with a hammer.  but couldn't get it to kick in.  Couldn't see any numbers on it, so I snapped a picture and took a hard look at it..  I'll hit the Detroit dealer tomorrow to by a replacement.. it shouldn't be that expensive of a part..  I suppose I could have taken a line off and shot some PC blaster up in it ... the spring is probably corroded.. I'm southern engineering everything anyway jut to get it home.

speaking of numbers..

Here's my model number...  as per metal placard next to drivers seat

G-  grand villa
89- year
3340 -build
40- length
SAI-  floor plan
U300- coach model
6V- engine

is that right ???

Tires are 275/80R  22.5 x 8.25

She was idling smooth at 600 rpms

None of my other gauges are working..

no oil pressure, water temp,  amperage or transmission temp..
I will need to amend this before I bring it home..
So.. maybe a fuse blown for the gauges?  I couldn't find the fuse panel..

Planning now on Bringing her home Wednesday if every thing pan's out..  :)

Road service doesn't kick in till Midnight Tues night.. so Wednesday it is...

Now this is something I do not understand. I just renewed the G Sam membership and it did cost $25 for a year and as I mentioned in another posting I also just got a chq from them for a tow abck to the Cummins place in Avondale PHX from exit 92 on Hwy 19 south of Tucson. I do not know thw distandce but it took us 3+ hours at minimum 70mph to get back so well over the 100 miles that is mentioned. I also did not contact them for the tow but applied 2 months later for payment.
So what is wrong here??? or is it just RV coverage and no other vehicles (which I do not care about as I have BCAA (AAA in usa)

John H,  you only pay 25 a year and get towing?  After signing up for the platinum plus, he did offer me a
another deal for 25. but that was in addition to my emergency towing service. It was more for benefits.. percentages off  camp grounds and stuff like that.

John, reference your comment "Just looked online at my Visa bill and sure enough I did pay $25 us."

It is true that Good Sam Club membership is $25 US but that does not include roadside assistance.  The roadside assistance package for GS members ranges from $79.95 to $179.95 US.  You may not have bought what you thought.

John, Monti is correct:

I have Good Sam Roadside Assistance and paid $139.95 for one year dues. This covers your RV, tow vehicle, plus all additional household relatives.

Protection on Any Vehicle you Drive, Own, Rent, Lease, or Borrow
Free Towing to the Nearest Professional Service Center
Free Family Membership Covering Spouse & Dependents
Free Access to the Technical Assistance Hotline
Free Battery Jump Starts and Flat Tire Service

The Platinum Service is $179 and allows you to choose where you want to be towed within 100 miles of disablement and many more benefits.

The $25  is for annual membership and includes the Swipe and Save card to use at the pump at Pilot and Flying J Travel Center pumps.

I've used the Roadside Assistance for a locksmith when I got locked out of my U300 and my son has used it for flat tire service.  So far no problems.

We have Good Sam Platinum and have luckily never needed it for the RV, but we have used it three times for family vehicles. Last time Tammy was out in rural MN and got help with a flat tire. No muss, no fuss, just pick up your cell phone and call. Worth every penny...

Well sorry to disagree with both but if I was not covered for Roadside Assistance I am sure as heck that they would NOT have sent me a chq for $1,050.00 to cover one of the tow fees that was paid. They did not pay the excess fuel surcharge of $105.00 but DEFINITLY paid the rest I have both cards as shown below (the membership one as I said was just renewed so even though my account info shows
my name and # when I copied it this info did not copy. On one it does show the Roadside Assist #s to call etc.
I definitly do have the full coverage and it did cost me $25us.
Sorry.
JohnH (
My online acct info says I have a "Deluxe Membership" and with my payment I made I am good till Sept 2016!!
Here is a copy of part of the email they sent me after I emailed them to see how claim was doing.

Great! But probably a costly mistake on their part. Somehow your entitlement probably mis-coded in their system.
They would lose money on this service if they sold it at $25 annually.
Crap shoot for you going forward to see if they catch their mistake. Most likely to happen at renewal.
Not sure what I would do in your shoes. But I would probably call and make sure after renewal that I still had towing, even if it caused them to catch their mistake and charge you the difference.
Payment system and entitlement system probably two different systems, not uncommon for stuff like this to happen.
I wouldn't bet a potential $1,000 tow in the future that my $25subscription would cover me given what is published on their web site regarding pricing and level of service.

My 25$ per year Good Sam Club membership does not include towing (like it does for my Canadian FoFum friends), but it does include a WHOPING 3 cents per gallon discount on diesel fuel at Flying J.

I agree with you Tim but as my membership is good till Sept 2016 I will leave it right now as if I do have other tow options thru AAA should something be wrong here. Hopefully never need it again.
