dometic comfort air thermostat

Has anyone had any experience with the Dometic Comfort Air thermostat?  We are pretty frustrated with  the original thermostat (switching between zones, primarily) and are looking for a replacement.  We would be interested in your experience and any issues having to do with installation.

If you have a 4 button thermostat I have changed them to 5 button thermostats but don't know if you can still buy them new. I have a few 5 button upper cercuit boards but no 5 button thermostats

Is your problem that the buttons do not work very well any more?  You can have the buttons replaced/ repaired as well as the on/off switch.  Jim Frerichs on this forum does the repair.  There is also a guy on ebay that sells new buttons that you can use to rebuild the old ones in your thermostat.

Hi Sven,

These 4 button thermostats are repairable. I've done hundreds of them.

Unsolicited testimonial.  We just had Jim rebuild our four button when we were both in NAC at MOT.  Very happy with the results.  Not inexpensive but represents real value over the alternatives.

Main issue is the difficulty of switching zones.  Often when we simultaneously push the two buttons to change zones, it changes the mode instead.  It is also difficult to see in low light.  My preferences for electronic devises (especially old ones) is to replace, rather than repair.

This is what I'm looking at.  A friend with a '97 Foretravel has one.

That's better known as a Dometic CCC2 (Comfort Control Center 2).  You *might* need new circuit boards in the roof units.  I know the old 5 button controller won't work with new off-the-shelf Penguin IIs unless you change their circuit boards.  When we had our roof units replaced in 2015, we had to go with the CCC2 controller.  I don't know if it's backwards-compatible to the old Penguins, though.

Really liked it!
