Ride Height Valve Replacement

I need a ride height valve for a spare. I read a recent thread that indicated Haldex 90555105 is plastic and replaces the older metal unit. Just doing a quick search on ebay and amazon I come up with the one below with the same 105 number. Looks like it's metal. Cheaper too at $65. Is this the correct part? Thanks.

That's the part number noted in that thread. They appear to be metal and are readily available at only $65. How about I rephrase my question: For those of you that have bought 90555105, is it metal or plastic? Thanks.

I just bought two of these valves.  Put one on and the other is a spare.  Exact fit.  Metal.

About $137.00 out the door for two.  DeCarollis Heavy Duty Truck Parts, Rochester, NY

Jor,

You have to be very careful these days buying parts.  Pays to read the description, and watch for words like "replaces" or "exactly like" or as in the case of this ad "Haldex Style".  When you see these words, you are probably not buying a genuine name brand part.  The bogus part may work as well as the real one, or may be junk.  Hard to know without trying it.  Counterfeit parts are usually cheaper than the "real" parts for a good reason.

It looks to me like the genuine Haldex part # 90555105 is now made of a black composite material (EGP):

90555105 - Height Control Valve - Replaces 90554241 - Haldex product

"The concept of the levelling valves with plastic housings (EGP = Engineering Grade Plastic) has proven good since the introduction a few years ago to the fullest customer satisfaction.
Advantage
- Components from technical plastic (EGP) are corrosion protected."

The "Haldex style" valve you are looking at, with the same part # 90555105 is made of metal.  This valve is made (sold) by "gpd" - not Haldex.

Amazon.com: One Haldex Syle Leveling Valve 90555105 for Trucks Trailers 1/4"...

The metal ebay valve mentioned by David (above) is also not made by Haldex.  It only "replaces Haldex 90554241"

I'm willing to bet the metal valve mentioned by Jack (above) is also not manufactured by Haldex.  It may look the same as the real part, and it may fit the same, but it still is not a genuine Haldex part.

I suppose as long as you understand what you are buying, and are satisfied with the quality of the part you pay for, then the name on the box is immaterial.  But if what you want is a genuine Haldex valve, then be sure that is what you are getting.

Anyone know where the ride height valves are located on my 91 GV Oshkosh chassis??  I think that I have a leaky one, but can't find it to check it out.  Thank you and have a great day  ----  Fritz

When I replaced mine some years ago, I used Haldex plastic.

Well stated Chuck..............
I too was undecided as to buying an OEM plastic or a replica metal one. Eventually went with the Haldex based on a few forum members replies stating no problems with the new plastic design.

We lost our front leveling valve outside of Pittsburgh a few months ago...one advantage of the OE Haldex valve is the Intake port "nut" can be turned to correctly line up the 90 to the air line. The valves I ordered as spares have a solid screwed in nut which creates a problem to line up the 90 at least it did for me.

my 2 cents

OK. I see the one I found is a knock off. I'd prefer a stock part. Looks like this one from finditparts is the real deal. I've bought from them before. It's a complete kit. I found one locally but they want $134. Thanks.

The pictures in that eBay listing show two different versions of the valve. The first picture that shows the whole kit including linkage, rubber couplings, and mounting plate looks like the composite ones I got at Napa. I think I paid less than $100 apiece (IIRC) for the complete kits. Notice how the first picture shows brass bushings in the mounting holes on the valve (if you zoom in), these are not present in the other pictures. It may be just have been a convenience for the lister to use some stock photo showing the current Haldex kits, but if getting the metal ones is important to you (it wasn't to me, as our original plastic OEM ones on our coach lasted over 160K miles and about 17 years), it might be worth asking.

I prefer the plastic. I saw those differences but in the description they indicate it's the plastic type. Anyhow, I'm going to make sure. Thanks.
