REMCO switch?

On the lower part of my dash is a REMCO switch. What is that for?
I took a picture but not sure that it came through.

I believe it is the on-off switch for a remco transmission pump.  It is used to pump transmission fluid in your toad if it doesn't have 4x4 transfer case that can be put in neutral thus allowing you to tow a car that was not designed to be towed.  If you don't have this car then you don't need the switch.  You can remove it.

Once installed on toad with automatic transmission provides transmission oil pressure from a pump. $1600 mod to tow vehicle.

We do want to tow a vehicle.

Rick, we towed with a dolly for a couple of years, then DW wanted a new vehicle SUV type.  I said great but it had to be a 4 wheel drive with a neutron in the transfer case.  I just like the ability to put everything in neutral (front and rear wheels) put transmission in park flip a switch then drive away.  the motorhome magazine towing guide is very good place to start your search.
BTW we toe a 2015 jeep cherokee, wasn't my first choice, but others didn't have neutral in transfer case.

Rick, the REMCO site is one of the places to go to check on whether your current vehicle can be safely towed four-down. Another is the FMCA towing guide. The MotorHome magazine mentioned above would also work. I use REMCO simply because it is so easy. Just put in the information for your current vehicle. If you are considering a change, put in your preferred candidate. Depending on your vehicle, you will get one of three possible answers:
1. your vehicle is towable as is
2. your vehicle needs a pump
3. your vehicle must be trailered.

Of course, for your current vehicle the easiest way to find out is to look in the owner's manual.

There are some things that might affect your decision. For example, the owner's manual for any Mini will say that it can NOT be towed four-down. REMCO says the manual transmission ones can be. You see lots of Minis pushing motor homes. I'm guessing that if you bought a new Mini and towed it the dealer would tell you that you have voided the warranty. If you bought a used Mini with no warranty the choice is yours.

BTW, we started out towing a 2012 Jeep Liberty. A couple of years ago it developed an expensive-sounding noise, so we now tow a 2015 Lincoln MKT. This is the basic model, so it is front wheel drive only, not all-wheel drive. Hook it up, put it in neutral, and away we go. Yes, we have to run it a bit in each gear, but expect for one time where we had an overnight stop in a pull-thru site, we always have to drive the car at least a little bit to hook up, so that isn't an issue.

Although you can check all the sites mentioned for towing info, I've found Remco tends to favor vehicles they sell equip for, so like anything else check all your sources.  I also like the Roadmaster site.

I've used a lot of their equipment, all with good results.  Their company has a lot of integrity, great before and after sale service.

The Remco systems uses a pressure switch on the pump output side to provide verification back to the driver that the transmission is being lubricated in case the pump or cable connection fail.  The switch is there for when you are not towing or your toad no longer has the system.
