Matching interior wood.

I'm designing a stand-alone rack up forward for our new MrCool mini-split heat pump and a case down below the console drawer for DVDs and CDs. Want to match existing; we think it's cherry, but not sure. Forum search shows red oak and walnut, too. Is there a letter or number on the build documentation plate, or do any of you sharp eyes think this is a match? I'll post a pic when the cabinet is finished. Thanks, M

It IS (no speculation) walnut.

Take a piece in to a box store and get the closest stain if you are not going to match with close to the same shade of walnut.

This does not mean that a cherry stain would not come closer to matching current interior wood color-- really depends on what wood you are starting with.

The walnut Foretravel used is/was "black walnut", so if you have the ability to purchase dimensional stock of black walnut (which will be from a specialty hardwoods place and NOT Home Depot or Lowes), all you'll need to finish it to match is some time in the sun and Sherwin Williams sanding sealer.

We did this for several projects and got the low-down on the "finish" direct from Foretravel.

With this wood, you'd have to, most definately, "measure three times and cut once!"  b^.^d    Black Walnut Lumber Overview, Availability and Pricing

Home Depot had the Black Walnut but not sure what size you need.. If your stuff is Cherry Alder will be a cheaper and pass as the same to most

Color will change with the type of wood.. Do a sample piece and test before you do the job and see which is best..

The frame will be all 2x2, 3/4 for the trim and base for the mini-split & DVD shelving. Anyone got a tembour door they want to part with? I'm going to visit forum member Roland Begin, who lives here,, and see what he's got laying around. BTW, these are my woodworking heroes; I've slavishly copied (but not improved) their work, which was Oriental influenced. green and green 'cloud lift' - Google Search
