Neils, you have the baby Aqua Hot which has 1/3 the heat storage of the big Aqua Hot. Hot water for more than washing your hands requires the diesel burner to be ON.
Using a clamp on amp meter, place the meter on one of the wires going to the electric element. If the control thermostat is calling for heat, Heating Status light in on, the draw is 12 amps. No amps is open circuit to the element. Check high limit thermostat for the element. If good, check resistance of the element, should be 9 ohms.
