Allison wouldn't go

While tryng to depart the campsite this morning, when I would attempt to put the transmission in D, it would just beep, and remain in neutral. No code was showing in the display. After making sure I wasn't having a senior moment by doing something wrong, I finally depressed the mode button and held it, as if trying to clear a code, and then it went into D. Any ideas on what was happening? Since we're in Fla, and it is very humid, and my wife had the A/C on to the "meat locker" setting, I was wondering if some condensation formed on the circuit board or something? It has never done this before.

Did you happen to notice the engine RPM's?  If over a certain amount (I don't remember if above 750 or 850 RPM) the Allison will not go into gear.

That sounds like the level system was not letting you engage into drive. WHat year coach do you have. Sometimes when you have the level system on it will not turn off the light till the air pressure is up. If you have a slide it might not have been locked and then when you moved a bit by releasing the level system the lock magnet showed closed and you could go in to drive. I would need more information on your coach status to help more. These are the common issues but your 96 does not have slides so that is not one of them.

Not going into gear MAY be an issue with the ECM or shift pad.  Mine would go into gear and then would not return to N. Tech in Texas rebuilt ECM but then later I had to replace touch pad. Search OLD messages under Allison and you will find info on TECH.  In the meantime, if ECM is COLD, use a hair dryer to warm it up, if it then shifts that will be a clue .Try unpluging connector at back of touch pad also.

RPMs were at normal idle, and HWH panel was indicating travel mode.

Hi Steve & Ginny,
  We had that happen five or six years ago. I shut the engine down, then restarted, all was fine. It happen once again, same trip. Has not happened since.
