Got a new problem. This time it is the engine

This leak of an oil type fluid just started 3 days ago.  Has anyone else had this problem?  I think I need to go to a Cummins facility for this.

What part of the engine is it leaking from. 

I can tell you from experience taking it to a real Cummins shop (Cummins-only) will save you money and grief over taking it to a truck shop found in the phone book.

Tom,

Look at the darkened area under the pulley to the left of the vibration damper. Not the best photo, I'll admit.

I am calling Cummins in Missoula, MT tomorrow.  We will be driving right past them on Wednesday.
Hey.  We are members of the Cummins club and get 10% off.  On this repair, that will buy us a nice dinner with dessert.

And while we are there, I can have them check the ABS warning light that is now on.

Geez.  What next?

Our appointment at Cummins Northwest here is Missoula, MT is at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, July 22.
 
I will be sure to post what I find out.  I truly doubt that the fix will be less than $500.

My guess - $75, as long as it's just the seal and not the bearing going bad.  They'll probably suggest you just leave it go and see if it gets worse.

You are the second person to say that.  But, here is my concern.  What if it goes "bad" when we are in a remote area and have to be towed?  I know, I know, playing the "what if" game is inconclusive.  But given the choice to get it fixed tomorrow or waiting until it get bad and then has to be done, my vote is to get if fixed tomorrow.  I do appreciate your input.

Have had two seals replaced at Cummins.....you'll be lucky if it is only $500.  They fixed one seal; oops, not the one leaking, so I got to do it again...Think the price was $700 EACH....

At 100 bucks an hour and parts you might be right.

 ;D George, Look at the bright side, you can have it fixed today for the Guesstimate of $500 TO $700 or you can put it off until you need towed and spent over $5,000.00 or better.
Appears a simple choice  ;)

It was the oil seal on the alternator pulley.  $195.36 and 90 minutes.  We do belong to the Cummins Power Club so the price reflects our 10% discount.

Not bad.

See my last post.  I do not agree with the wait and see approach.  The problem has been corrected for under $200.

NEVER gotten out of Cummings that cheap...even for an oil change.

In Joplin, Mo they changed the harmonic balancer seal for $503.00; problem was, wrong seal so ended up in Hodgkins, Il and changed the air compressor mounting gasket seal for $ 903.00.  (this did include oil and filter change..)  With no credit for changing the wrong seal....of course...    Cummins in Hodgkins was excellent...

We joined when we stopped for Cummins service in Bakersfield CA.  You CAN join on the same day as the service is provided and get the 10% off. Membership is $19.95 and good for 12 months, at which time you either renew or re-join nest time you need Cummins service.
