New Lithium-Iron Phosphate Batteries

Interesting article here regarding lithium-iron phosphate batteries (not ion).  The weight savings, size and easier maneuvering of these bats alone, sounds enticing...  10 year life span (some ads have said 12)?  Anybody have experience with these?

I do NOT have any details as to voltages, sizes, capacities and other pertinent data.
I am VERY interested in finding a source for them provided they are quality manufactured and warranted.
Seems like the answer to my solar power situation.
I sure hope that they are manufacturing 12 volt versions.
This TOPIC heading can be used to update any thing anyone finds on the subject.

Based on the "other" products seen on the website, I would be somewhat skeptical of what they have to offer. However, you are correct, they are Prett Cool. I would like to find some made by someone like Presto-Lite or East Penn Battery and am wondering why they haven' gotten into manufacturing them.  I am sure the Chinese would sell the technology.

I guess alot of production will depend upon demand, thus availability & interest by other manufacturers.  Seems like new technology - has been advertised in marine use so there's some source links there...

Reducing my battery weight by half means I can carry more cool stuff in the coach.  The increased costs appears to be offset by the longevity of the batteries.  Too bad the power cubes haven't been developed for RV use (yet)...

Googling the new battery composition indicates that our current battery chargers will not work with this new battery. States they are easily damaged if not managed correctly.

I would also be interested EXCEPT for the price and current capability.  My 8D battery is 250 AH, theirs is 55 AH, my 8D costs about $150, theirs is $1319 (with charger) and probably can't be charged by the engine.  It would take four of their batteries to equal one of mine thats about $5000!  I would have a lifetime of batteries for that price.

Yup, new technology.  Hopefully, the price will come down as availability increases.  But I suspect that because they are smaller, much more lightweight & appear to have a longer lifespan, they will still be...  uh, pricey, to say the least.

George,

John was referring to regular, wet, lead-acid batteries, 8D.  I can buy them (Continental batteries) here in Nacogdoches, right across from FOT factory at A&D Hydraulics and Batteries for $150, tax and disposal fee included. Did so in December of this past year. It's the gels that run ~$400 each.

Don: The Prevost H3-45  Liberty coach has the new lithium phosphate battery system installed on them. An article was written up on the green batteries some time ago - you can go to RVtravel.com and read the info on the batteries. Has a 10 year life and saves about 1150 lb. on a coach. Hope this helps. C.Lacy Houston

I guess I should have been more specific.  Yes my 8D's are standard wet cells and I get them from Republic Battery here in Houston.
