U-line Icemaker repair info - UPDATE

Earlier this Spring I entered an item on the old forum (message 43629 now in Foreforum Archives) regarding some troubles I have been having with my U-Line icemaker.  During this hot summer and family reunion weekends the icemaker is a Godsend.

To review: I have been having intermittent trouble with the icemaker filling the "tray".  Dave Head had an excellent article on icemaker maintenance on the old forum (#6032 partially quoted below) which pointed to the mold heater.

          ------------------------

If your U-line ice maker freezes ice, but fails to eject (more than once or twice), your mold heater
has failed. Not only had this happened to mine, but the plastic coating in the mold had failed. The
aluminum corroded and it was just a mess...

In my case it seems to be a tempermental icemaker bale.  For those of you with similar problems you might first try to cycle the bale several times to get the icemaker to fill the tray.

Once again today I could not get the icemaker to fill and make cubes.  I had to search my old message to "remember" my own solution (my mind's search function seems to be a bit slow of late.  Must be that the database is much too vast for my aging "technology")...  :D

As soon as I cycled my bale a few times again the icemaker immediately started to fill. I've already had a dump of cubes while writing this note.  So here's hoping for further dumps (icecubes that is).

Ron,

$160 to U-Line gives you a new, complete icemaker tray, heater, etc.unit. It takes 2-3 hours at the most to replace it and it's like having a new freezer.

Thanks Don.  We're on the road for almost a month. Our 1st extended trip.  Right now the U-line is pumping out the cubes. If it continues to act up I'll spring for the replacement tray & heater unit when we return.
