Reno to Nacogdoches

 Hi,
We are planning a trip to the factory in mid September from Reno, Nev.  going fairly direct.  Plan to go thru SLC and Denver.  Any advice on route, any cautions or ideas would be much appreciated.  Thanks.

Just this week we did part of that drive (coming from the FMCA Convention in Redmond and returning home to League City, TX).

That is likely the fastest route.  But, do NOT take 287 from I70 toward Amarillo.  Lots of bad surface and several sections of several miles of one lane traffic as they repair the road.  From Amarillo south 287 is fine-- just drove that today.

Ditto on 287 south of I-40 being a good route.  Ol' Town Cotton Gin park in Goodlett is a good overnight stop if you need one in that area.

We prefer to avoid I-635 around Dallas - we live in the DFW area and there's almost always a wreck or backup (and crazy drivers).  We usually use 287 to I-20 and across to 259 south. 

We'll be in Nac at MOT September 13 for our slide bladder replacement.  If you're in Nac around the same time come on over and say "boy howdy!".  You can't miss the Posse (3 cocker spaniels).

If you want beautifully scenery, try Hwy 25 off 70 at Mintern to Buena vista, continue on 285 to Salida, 50 east to Cotopaxie, 1a south through Westcliff to I-25 just N. of  Walsenburg, S. to Ratan, then 64/87 to Dumas, 287(4 lane) to Amarillo, I stay on 287 to Henrietta, then take 82 through Sherman to Bells, then S. on 69 to Alto, then 21  to the factory.  I have taken this rout many times and really do not enjoy driving through big city traffic. As mentioned before, the old town cotton gin in Goodlet is a nice place to layover.  This sounds complicated but is a very easy drive.  Check it out on streets and trips or whatever mapping program you use.  Norm H.

oops!  My wife just told me Not to send you down US 24 (I said 25 by mistake) at minturn as that can be a bit hairy if you are not used to it.  Instead continue on I-70 to Copper Mtn.. and turn S on 91 to Leadville where you can pick up 24 to Buena Vista.

Another very scenic drive from Reno is to take Hwy 50-- one of the few named highways in the U.S.  It is the "Loneliest Road in America" across NV and into UT.  Not nearly as hairy as some of those CO mountain passes.

We have taken it several times when transiting east-west, including this summer on our trip west.

You don't want to go thru what I have gone thru to get this "aura"  :'(

I have heard it said that dealing with difficulty builds character and I have way more character than I ever wanted. However, I must admit that I learn a lot from the forum and particularly several members with high levels of character.
