MCD RV Innovations

Some of us on the forum have had our window shades replaced by MCD RV Innovations.  I recently heard that they have moved to a new facility.  I checked out their web site  today and the new facility is very impressive.  Also, MCD is committed to using only American-made supplies and equipment.

We do like our MCD shades.

George,
Do you know if MCD has the electric window shades that you can remotely change from open to closed?
Brothers Phenix has some sort of remote controlled blinds all around and just wondering if MCD makes em?

Yes.  They do have that option.

As I recall, the blinds that cover the windshield are sold only with the remote control.  That is the way ours were set up and we really, really like them.  All of the other interior MCD shades on our coach are manual because they are so easy to operate, we did not choose the remote controls for these shades.  They have a unique roller system that rolls up the shade smoothly and slowly.  Unlike the old-fashioned window shades of our youth, these do not roll up and snap around at the top.

George how long have you had the MCD shades?

It is getting very close for us to replace our day/night shades, but was wondering if the MCD shade will "curl" on the sides like the window shades of yesteryear?

About 6 months.  No curling yet and I don't expect to ever see that happen.  These are very well made shades.  Others here have had theirs longer and I am sure they will relate their experience.

If you go to the factory, MCD will have a full hook up for you.

Is the window shade weighted at the bottem to stay in place where it contacts the dash? Also is it form fitted where I picture the shade would roll from the top down to where it will contact the curved drivers dash?

For our '03 it is weighted - there's a string of metal beads sewn into a channel to weight the blinds (both the day solar mesh and the night vinyl).

How they work around the dash depends on where the blind falls.  For ours, they were able to make the bottom 8 or so inches a flap that drapes backwards slightly as it contacts the instrument area, since our blind doesn't have much of a dash "hump" to form around.  For others, they have used several overlapping pieces of blind material in the dash "hump" area to help form around it.

We've had our blinds for almost a year and a half and no curling.  We'll be in Nac for a few days starting around Sept. 12 if you are close by and want to see ours in person.

UPDATE ON MCD

We are at the new campus of MCD RV Innovations in McKinney, TX.  MCD has a great culture that reminds me a lot of being at MOT and at Xtreme.  All three companies have the ability to find and keep outstanding employees.

We returned to MCD because two shades did not retract as easily as they should.  MCD is replacing the mechanisms on four shades (two additional rollers did not work to the satisfaction of our installer).  Note: there is a one year warranty on parts and labor.

Like many businesses, MCD could have easily adjusted these four roller mechanisms and said:  "O.K.  you are good to go."  Instead, they did the right thing and replaced the mechanisms.  I am sure many if not all of you have been to a car dealer or some other service provider that was content to adjust something, show you that it is now working and a few days or weeks later the adjustment would fail and you would be back to square one.

It is great to have a companies like MCD, Xtreme and MOT.  If more would follow their model, success would be theirs, too.

Couple of additional points.  If you are coming to MCD, be sure to follow the travel directions on their web site.  Also, the sites have 50 amp service, no water or sewer connection.

That is great to know.  Our "new" coach has the Day/Night shades and they are in good repair (now that David Flanagan's boys let me rummage to find 2 new replacement knobs in their magic scrounged parts cabinet) but they do not hold a candle to the nifty shades we saw in Steve & Michele's coach during our time together here at Camp Foretravel last week.  MCD is definitely on my Wish List, now!  I concur with your opinion of Xtreme and MOT ... but I want to add that our week here at FOT,  having various service items addressed on our 1993 that was going to a new owner .... as well as the 1995 we have just acquired ... was all that anyone could have asked for.  Minor items, like a "sticky" drawer or a cranky water valve, were addressed without charge to us.  Tank monitor sensors were repaired and are now working ... a 2 minute diagnosis and a 5 minute repair ... no charge to us.  But  PRICELESS education  that we have already passed on to another owner.  It is great to have guys who will take time to explain new systems to us.  I am happily confident to sign up for service at FOT or MOT ... whichever has room on their schedule!
