Recliners...

We're looking for a recliner to use not only for watching a good movie but also one that could be used as a chair for the desk (we're have the DGFE layout).  Something that would be light, or relativey so, to move but yet not cheap or flimsy.  Anybody have a good source for multi-use recliners - something that would not overwhelm a non-slide coach?  We took the original recliner out as it was really too big...


I used to work with a guy years ago that had a chair made by lazy-boy that was an executive type office chair that also was a recliner (once I saw that, I understood why his door was closed all the time...).  Looked at their offerings recently but didn't see anything like that.

Since you are close to the mother ship check with remodeling at both FOT and MOT...

I had David Flannigan order our chair- he would know what manufacture would have what you are looking for

This was discussed a while ago. Others went with La-Z-Boy. So did we in our 1997 36ft U295. Be sure to get one with the rotating base. We did not use ours with a desk. Kathleen had her iMac on a short IKEA "box" in front of her and keyboard/mouse on her lap. So she could do computer and watch TV at the same time.  I used the dinette.
 
We're reversed in our current 1999 40ft U320. My laptop is in front of our recliner (smaller than the normal one FT used) that's behind the passenger seat, on an extension that rolls out of the small table with the lamp on it.

Perhaps you could install such a slide out in a desk drawer.

We threw out our original big recliner and purchased the smallest size Ekornes Stressless chair (http://www.ekornes.com/us/stressless/stressless_recliners/ ).  It instantly opened up the look of our motorhome's no-slide interior.  Chair back is lower than our original FlexSteel chairs so we can see over the chair from the kitchen table.  The open bottom also opens up the look.  The separate included foot stool is used for the chair, couch and co-pilot.  Also works as a jump seat when working a computer on the dash as we go down the road. They use good leather.  We found the chair a bit too low for working at a desk, so we purchased the matching Stressless elevator ring and later added a 2nd ring to raise the chair another 1.5" (http://www.ekornes.com/us/stressless/tables_accessories/recliner_accessories/ .  We also have the Stressless Swing table and use it all the time. Tried the PC table but it did not work out for us.  We have had our chair for many years and it looks good as new.

The DW threw me out of the galley, so I made a walnut table that sits on the steering wheeland makes a computer desk out of it.  It ends up comfortably angled.

Works great, but I have to stow it behind the seat when I drive.  The square corners make it slow turning corners. ;D

Mike,

Got any pictures?  Did you do anything special to the bottom of the table to keep it from sliding?  If you don't show pictures someone is gonna smite thee.

We looked/sat on these chairs at a local Scandinavia store and they were really comfortable but at the time, I think they wanted something in the neighborhood of around $1300 for 'em.  I guess the chairs were paying premium rent to show  :-X ...  Maybe it's time to re-look and see if they'll have 'em on sale at some point.  It's good to hear that you've had good luck with it.  Everything else we've seen appeared too big/bulky. 


Did y'all get leather or cloth upolstry?  Am wondering how well the cloth would hold up over time...

Regarding recliners.  The original chair in our coach was too big.  We were near Houston and found a large Ekorness dealer.  Bought a medium size chair and brought it to the coach.  When we got home a couple in a TT were pulling out.  They had Texas plates.  I asked them if they were on the way home.  He looked at me like I had 3 eyes.  Then I explained that we were about to toss a nice recliner in the dumpster, but thought he might like it.  Fifteen minutes later it was in the trailer and there were smiles all around.

BTW Ekorness does not make a cloth recliner.  I have seen on-line sales.

I really like the little barrel recliner in my 93, U225. If anyone is getting rid of theirs for a new replacement or knows someone that still has one and would like to get rid of it, I would like to buy it and have it restored to match the rest of my interior in my U300. It just fits me which is odd because I am 6'2".

I thought that Stressless only comes in leather.  It does come in 3 sizes and we think the smallest fits the best in our motorhome.

We love our Kiri recliners, which are put in the new coaches.  Not cheap, but very comfortable and have built-in footrests.

You may want to look at Austin Leather Direct located on 2115 W. Anderson Lane.  They carry a knock off brand of a euro recliner made by Palliser that is nice quality for around $700.  You can go right around the corner an sit in the real chairs for comparison shopping.  The owner will come down about $100 fro his posted price if you will discuss price a little.  They also carry all the samples of the leather which is nicer than the online stores.  I ended up buying a knock off from the Scandinavian Store as they were closing them out at a great price.  It was not Palliser quality, but for less than $300 it would work for me and the color in stock matched perfect in my coach.

Please help me out here.  My recliner is bolted to the floor of the coach but it seems from the discussion that at least one of the recliners is like what you would find in a home.  I would be concerned that having a loose recliner might become a deadly missile in an accident.  Our loose chairs in the dining area are constrained by the partition with the stairwell and by the bolted down table.  When you purchase a "house" recliner do you then bolt it to the floor or leave it loose?

Mine has been the lazyboy in 3 different coaches and never been bolted down.  Have not has a problem with it moving around.

We have a house recliner.  It sits atop the carpet.  If we hit something so hard as to create "deadly missles" worse things than a padded recliner will hit me first.    atech@sbcglobal.net> wrote:

I have what I think is a Palliser Euro Recliner for sale. It is in cream leather with an ottoman in like new condition. It came in my "new 2 me" coach. It is free setting on the carpet and as stated above does not move around while traveling. If anyone is interested, send me a private message on the Forum. We can then discuss details and price.
