Help with tail light bulb replacement in 94

I'm looking for someone with experience in accessing the bulbs in a 94 tail light assembly.  The exterior has no screws and inside the rear cap the light assembly is sealed.

David,

If it is like our 1993 U240, remove the fiberglass cover on the inside of the fixtures (in the engine compartment).  Square head #2 screws hold the cover in place if I recall properly.

And while in there remove and wipe the dust off all the other bulbs as well.

I have a 93 GV and Brett is correct. However on my GV there was a large amount of caulk around the enclosure so it was very hard to remove. I thought it was not the method to access the tail lights. I finally pried the enclosure off and Hooray, I was able to change bulbs.

The caulk they used helps keep dust out of the tail light so when I replaced the cover, I put a new, very small bead of caulk around the cover where I could reach. Unless the original installer was the size of a pack rat, I don't know how they got in the compartment to caulk the entire cover. I suspect it was done before the rear cap was installed.

Pat, On my 95 U280 I replaced the clearance lights with LED's.  The numbers I used were.
Grote 47252 and 47253. Do a search under clearance lights on this forum for further details.

That is not the style I have.  But afraid I will have to switch maybe, cause I can't find a replacement for mine.  They are marked SAE AP2-80 (which only indicated DOT position as a clearance/marker light) and TL-18.  It is just a plane rectanglar lens/housing (not oval).  It is 4 1/2" x 1 5/8" wide, 4" center to center Mount holes.  Has a round light housing the goes into the body where a 194 bulb holder attaches. The only reference I have found on the internet is "unknown manufacturer".  Have found them at Kansas Truck Equipment for $10.20 each (ouch) but still don't known manufacturer and I think I can do better price wise.

Oh, found the 194 bulb led replacements.

Pat, You've got it.  Original is what you describe.  What I replaced them with is numbers I gave out.  Critical measurement is 4" between screw holes. I used the GROTE Lights as they have a stainless steel bezel but you can get the same light without  the bezel.  The 47252 Is RED and fits over the one inch hole in the fibreglass. 47253 is yellow.  Use Polyseal to exclude water leaks and you are good to go. In the interest of looking the same I replaced all the clearance lights, I had already replaced the turn/marker lights.  Now all are LED's so that should be the end of my light problems.
BTW, If you do crack a lens on these GROTE numbers you can buy just a replacement lens.
Good luck

Pat, Those will have pig tails with bullet connectors probably;  Buy  the female bullet connector, clip off the original wires, crimp on female connectors and then you plug in new lights.  WARNING, the wires for the old lights are very small #16 or less, to make good connection strip off an inch of insulation, fold wire back 1/2 inch or so, then insert in bullet connector and crimp tightly, if you don't crimp may not hold.

Gary,
Telephone company splice connectors are ideal for doing that kind of splicing with small gauge wires.  And usually the local phone repairman is more than willing to help one out.
