Need Mud Flap Source

Does anyone know of a good source for a full-width mud-flap? Ours is tattered and (over)due for replacement.

Chad, I replaced my Full Width Flap with one I made. I went to a local quarry and they gave me all the used conveyor belting that I wanted. I attached it to the original angle iron hanger with self drilling screws and added stainless steel plates to dress it up.
This may not be what you want to do buts its another option.
On the old Yahoo site I posted pictures and if I can find them I'll post them here.
I can't find the photos but if you do a search " Mudflap Rebuild " you will find message 24033 and a thread about mud flaps.

Rudy is correct.

We are at Xtreme. I went to the factory and bought a new stainless steel Foretravel which Xtreme will attach to new black rubber. We had the old style white letters on black and it had been beaten up pretty badly over the past 10 years.

A word to the wise!
I added the FT SS Overlay, using all SS hardware, to my mudflap several years ago and then experienced a problem.
The FT SS Overlay has two weak points in it. For the newer FT's, it doesn't matter because their mudflap material is very stiff and doesn't flex appreciably. However, the older FT mudflap material (and most replacement materials that I've considered) are much more flexible. That makes the weak points in the FT SS Overlay show up. Those weak points are at the tops and bottoms of the "F" and "L" where there is very little metal left after the laser cutout lettering. The metal doesn't break at the weak points. It just bends and stays bent ................. taking away from the improvement.
Two solutions to all of this are:
Replace the entire mudflap with FT materials
or
Place full length SS backing strips (behind the mudflap) across (at least) the upper row of FT SS Overlay bolts, or better yet, full length across both rows of FT SS bolts.
SS backing strips of 3/16" X 2" X 8 ' would seem to be ideal in protecting your "fresh new look".

Could you use the link type attachment? This would let the flap give when you lower in a spot that the flap may rest on. I know I have bent my flap before when parking at some rally's with poor terrain.

They supply the metal Foretravel mud flap, also they will custom cut a sign for you. Approx. $130.00 ( UNIHOME ) my cost.

George, I used my old mud flap, but i put metal behind rubber flap for support. I used tire cleaner to fresh - up old flap.
( angle iron approx.1"x 1" length of flap )

I had to buy new rubber. Our mud flap came loose while driving and wore away a substantial portion on driver side.

In the case where a screw comes loose or is gone, I used a cable tie (zip) to hold the mud flap inplace. It worked great! Easy quick fix!

Those cable ties get real brittle and break easily exposed to the sun.
I would not trust them for holding a mudflap.

Cable tie is a suggestion for temporary fix so mud flad doesn't get ruined. I agree that his is not a permanent fix.

George, Try McMaster-Carr or an Industrial supplier that handles conveyor belting. Better have the dimensions you need as quite often the Ind. Supplier might have a drop inhouse . There are many different types of composition, materials and widths available--even color.

Cable ties are available from Harbor Freight that are stainless steel. Not too expensive either. Don't know long term quality of the stainless though.

There is a company in Appleton, WI (I believe it is called Industrial Supply) that has conveyor belting. It was located right near the MAN's Store--Fleet Farm. I have purchased "drops" from them when we lived in the area.

Update on mud flap replacement:

Periodically I wander back in the shop to see how the guys are progressing on our coach. They are now working to install the new mud flap and stainless steel Foretravel nameplate. One of the Xtreme guys had placed the old steel backing bar over the new bar that I bought from the factory so that he could accurately transfer the placement of holes. I said to him: "If you want to use the old piece, just go ahead and do that." He said: "yes sir, that's what I am going to do. I will sandwich the mud flap between both pieces of steel to make it stiffer so it won't bend."

What impresses me about the service here at Xtreme is that they go way above and beyond to give us the best possible end results -- whether it is in fiberglass, painting or other services.
