Chrome/polished stainless bay door/entry door handles?

All this talk about coach appearance "freshening"....

Searching the archive, back in 2005, Ed S. updated his 2002's bay and entry handles to chrome (or maybe polished stainless?) ones from FOT.  Sounds like a nice look, wondering if they're similar to the handles on the new coaches?

Anyone have any recent photos or sources for such things that would work on an '03?  Hey George - would you mind asking Xtreme if they have sourced anything like that?  (Since you're there with nothing to do but steal pancake syrup and jam packets from IHOP?  :P )

This time last year I purchased a full set of chrome compartment and an entry door handles from Tri-mark.  Their item # 12430-04, part # 22676-02. I had to use parts from both handles to make them work but it has worked out excellent and looks great.
I have a 2004 U295, so I think it is the same as you 03

Ray,

Thanks for the information.  It now appears they have replaced that latch with a new one that has a "modernized look" ... when I looked at the recommended cutouts for what I have to what the new one is they are somewhat different.  I might just order one to see what is involved in replacing the old with the new and if the new version still allows one to upgrade.

I just spoke to Jane Grober at Tri-Mark and they have 100 chrome handles in stock that will work on your coach.
They have them in stock under the item # 12430-04. I  did not ask price. They were under $40 each. The one for the entry door has a different number Item # 13438-05
I went thru the same thing when I ordered mine, one person told me they did not have them but Jane
knew what I needed and sold them to me.
She can e-mail you the drawing of the handle so you can compare with yours
Good Luck

Do they make one that would fit my 99 U270? Or is that too old to update.

I had a 1998 U270 and I think they were the same. I was going to upgrade them and they were available at the time. Best thing to do, call her and ask her to send the drawings and compare with what you have, or order one that they will allow you to return

Steve called and got the drawing e-mailed to him yesterday (almost instantaneous - those Tri-Mark folks are great).  Ordered 10 bay door handles at $36.xx apiece (volume discount) and one entry door at $78.xx.  A little "Chrome Shop Mafia" bling for our coach (quick - name that reference!).

Steve installed the new bay door handles this weekend with the help of Kent Speers and moi.  It took a couple of hours because the mechanisms had to be partly disassembled to fit the openings.  We think the finished look is much cleaner than the faded black ones.  As an added bonus, the new handles need maybe 1/4 the effort to open the bays.

For reference, here's a photo of the coach with the old black handles

The only one remaining is the entry door handle, which is going to be more involved to install.

If you order them, keep in mind there are at least 3 mechanism types.  One for the hinged bay doors with the rods, one for the bus style pantograph lift up that have cables, and the entry door.  Our coach has 6 bus style and 4 hinged bays.

Coach looks great with new handles. If you have not installed the entry door handle yet don't worry it is not that difficult. Did you get the same part number I gave you.

Ray, you may think installation was easy for you but Steve without my supervisory assistance may have a really tough time. One cannot over emphasizes the value of professional supervision. Just ask Tom Sawyer.

Thanks for the part numbers and the compliment, we are very happy with the look of the new handles and how much better they operate.  I did adjust all of the cables (with Kent's close supervision) so there was minimal play in the mechanism.  I have not done the entry door yet, Kent has been unavailable to provide the needed consulting services so I may have to give it go on my own  :P

I do believe those were the part numbers I ordered,  I'll double check when I get home and post the numbers.  The trimark folks were very good to work with and helped track down the parts and validate part numbers.

In the end I ended up using the new chrome fronts, gaskets, springs, washers, etc, but reused the original 'C' clamping bracket and the original cable / rod attachments as it was just easier to mount everything back up that way.  I had to disassemble them to insert them in to the bay openings anyway.

Steve,
When you get home and get the part numbers for the chrome handles, can you also post the phone number of Tri-mark and also the name of the few folks that know what these handles are and are able to get the ones that fit our coaches?
Thanks a bunch.  The next post will be the "How to install these suckers!".  Maybe you could remove one of yours, put the old one back on and have Michelle video the "how to" and upload to YouTube!  :)
