GE Advantium Micorwave/Convection oven

My 06 Phenix has the GE Advantium ovem.  Can't find a way to turn the turntable off when using the convection oven.  Nothing in the oven manual.  Anyone figure this out yet?  A real pain when trying to bake if the turntable stays on as it limits the size pan you can use.

I am 99% positive that you can not disable the turntable.  GE really screwed up on that feature.

After extensive, exhaustive research my wife said just turn the pan over and it wont rotate. :o ??? 8)

Genius.  I have sent a query to GE asking if a rectangular dish that does not rotate will cook the contents evenly.  I'll let you know what I find out.

Yes.  that is one way, but the rotating stub sticks up above the oven floor.
Does not matter as the pan will not touch it when you turn it over.
My wife does this regularly.

I was wondering if strips cut from a white cutting board of sufficient height cold be placed under the pan.

Best would be a oven safe and microwave safe ceramic material.  That way, if you forgot and left it in the oven on convection, you wouldn't risk damage due to melting plastic.  But it sounds like it might not be needed, according to Barry.

The turntable issue is one reason we haven't considered the Advantium as an upgrade to our Sharp conv/micro.  That and the Sharp has much better sensor cooking than my GE in the S&B.  It steams fresh veggies perfectly.

Barry:  Your wife rocks!!!  What a simple solution, wish I would have thought of it.  Just to clarify for everyone, we are talking about the black enamel pan that comes with the Advantium that is used for oven and speed cook methods.  I actually ordered a second black enamel pan (my 120 came with only 1 black enamel pan) for when I am baking "cookies" so that I can have another pan ready to go in the oven and not have to wait for the 1st pan to cool off to reuse.

I am still feeling my way with this Advantium.  It is light years different from the KitchenAid convection/microwave that came installed (by the previous owner)in my '93.  The cookbooks that I was able to pick up at FMCA rallies were very specific to Sharp settings and there was no way I felt able to convert them to the KitchenAid.  At least the recipes in the Advantium manual are things that I might possibly use .... and there IS a DVD in the coach that may help me, also.  If anyone finds a book that is handy for use with the Advantium, I would love to hear about it.  That is the best way for me, personally, to learn the settings and how they affect cooking times.  So far, I have had good experiences with just sticking to Pyrex or silicone ware using the metal pan .... a square pan will turn completely.  There may be a reason they say to leave the turning wheel in place for all cooking procedures.  there is a vented, perforated area under the back half to that turntable area that may need to be exposed to either suck or exhaust air during convection cooking.  It might cause a hot spot under any stationary pan, or cause your oven to heat unevenly if it is not allowed air flow.  I am just a good girl and read the books and try and follow directions.  I am too afraid these things will blow up!

Well if Barry's wife has used it with the tray upside down in convection mode without any issues then that is good enough for me.

I'll bet you could use a couple of metal (for convection/halogen only) or microwave and oven-safe ceramic (for any mode) washers, spacers, or standoffs to create the same gap that normally exists with the turntable right side up.  That would solve any airflow blockage concerns.

Noticed something interesting while browsing the online Advantium Use and Care manual, http://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-40624.pdf

It makes note of 2 full-width metal racks that can be used when doing "convection only" baking (but not speed cooking or microwave, obviously, since they're metal).  Looks like there are 2 rack positions that allow stationary convection baking above the rotating turntable.

Carol and Sandy (and Darlene) - do your Advantiums have these racks?  I don't recall seeing them in any FT-installed Advantium, but it looks like they're standard equipment for the current model 120V OTR ovens.

(Edited to add:  looks like these are new model Advantium ovens.  1.7 Cu ft capacity, models are PSA1201 and CSA1201.  The one's we've seen in FTs are the 1.4 Cu ft. SCA1001 models)

Dunno.  I do not have any type of full-width metal rack.  The side walls of the oven are perfectly smooth, with no shelf holders in place (as there were in my KitchenAid M/C Oven).  That may be an upgrade on the newer models, as I have an Advantium 120 Model.  I did inherit 2 round, footed metal racks that have little porcelain-type feet, and are the right size to fit on either the metal tray or the glass one.  I see no mention of them in the manual or the cook book that came with the Advantium.  They may not even be standard equipment ... may belong to whatever was in here before.  More study is required.  At the very least, they are now cooling racks!

Ah, it appears there are newly-released Advantium models.  PSA1201 (Profile) and CSA1201 (Cafe).  1.7 Cu ft. capacity (up from 1.4 Cu Ft.) and they have the full-width racks.  The Advantiums installed in FTs to date are the SCA1001 models.

Looks like a trip to the BORG is in order to check these out in person.

Some of us commented on the possibility of finding a way to use a rectangular dish in a microwave oven with a turn table.

GE did not like my idea.  See below:  (Lisa is a GE customer service rep. and a careful reader will note than Lisa is confused as to my gender.  I don't know too many women named George.  Oh well.

Lisa,

I did not do a good job of asking the question.  Can I do this:

1.  Lift off the ring  and round tray and

2.  Lay two 1/2 inch x 1/2 inch by 8 inch strips of food grade plastic on each edge of the depression in the microwave floor and

3.  Put a rectangular dish on top of the strips AND will the contents  of the 9 x 13 rectangular dish cook properly?

4.  Can I do this for speed cock and for microwave?

Thanks for being willing to help..

Dear Ms. Stolz,

Thank you for clarifying your information. Unfortunately, I can't recommend doing this because it would be considered modifying the product. I know this isn't the answer you wanted to hear. It also may affect cooking as well. I am sorry for the inconvenience.

Sincerely,

Lisa

Many, many times.
There is a tendency for it to be hotter in the back.
So you may want to turn the pan once half way thru.
