Xtreme Paint Job update on my 01 320

After nearly 3 weeks on a 4 week schedule, I am getting very ready to get back in my "Man Cave",
thought would give a quick peek at some of the goings on at Xtreme.
Enjoy

Dave,

As I had said in a PM to you; we watched Xtreme  work on your coach for two weeks...Every one of James' employees is an artist who take great pride in their work...Can't wait to see the final pictures..

Jeff, I tend to agree with you, after talking with Rance and he went over my coach and commented on things I never thought about, even the condition of the frame bolts underneath, he was most amazed at the over all condition of my coach as it has been under roof 95% of its life, Rance said it looks like it is less than six months old. Referring to roof, and the caulking around vents etc etc etc... said he has not seen one in such condition.  Makes me feel good, now if it just turns out the way I am thinking ..
Only a week and half to wait for the outcome, gee like a kid at Christmas as time is dragging...

Looks great, Dave.  What paint treatment are they going to do with the rear ladder and the awning frames?

The rear ladder will most likely hang in my shop forever and all the awnings are being remounted as they were.
On the ladder, I have no plans on selling it, as I might one day reinstall it, I am going to see how this goes with out it.  Most likely it will be another thing the wife will be stuck with after my demise, that is my hope, have plenty of toys / junk for her to get rid of ;)

You're making it very tempting for the rest of us to have our F.T. painted. If only we had the $ to spare for such a nice paint job. Looks really, really nice.

New paint is gong to be a more common option. There are not going to be as many used FT out there as time goes on. And the new ones will have loads of pollution stuff too.  Nice looking paint job.

JOHN,
I know I will have to lay low for awhile after repeating what I've been told by one of our respected and widely known service people,  "The 01 was the last of the good Foretravel units".
Won't that get it started?
Anyway, one of the big reasons I decided to go for the best paint job was simply because the coach is a very sturdy and well built unit, worthy of revamping as I tend to keep it instead of upgrading in the near future.
Ever know of a Winny, Fleetwood, Country Coach or others that were worth spending that kind of money on when they were at least 10 yrs old?

Dave, the previous owner of my 1993 thought it was worth a $40,000 + freshening and I agree with him. I feel as though I am driving a new, premium motorcoach for a lot less than you would spend on a Mini Winni, if they still make that model.

There's no question that on the pre-2002 models updating/upgrading/full body paint will enable the owner to keep the coach longer and have more pride of ownership.  Unfortunately, the owner does not get much of that expenditure back at sale time.  I'm having some difficulty putting-in $25,000 into a 97 U270 to effect repairs, coat roof, modify head lights & tail lights, etc.

I don't think I would get $20,000 in trade net-net after commissions, allowances for repairs/deferred items, profit, etc.  But, I also could not buy anything I would want with $45,000 including taxes, license, etc.

The best approach is what Kent did.  Find the right coach that has already been upgraded and pay next to nothing for the upgrades...IMHO.

Hi Peter,
An RV and investment do not compute.  Ever since the DW turn down the Phenix, it opened the gate for upgrades on present coach. Boats, RVs and Airplanes are not investments, had all three.  For me I keep the coach in a heated garage, and haul butt when I get the urge, the idea of sitting on the rocker on the porch, waiting for the hearse is not seen as a future.  :))

That's what the buyer of my 1997 Xtremed U295 did.  The beautiful full-body paint, all new side windows and European headlights helped sell it, but I'm not sure I got anything extra for the upgrades.

The only way you come out on that kind of restoration is if you plan to keep the coach for a long time or you just want to drive something unique and cool and have the money to not be concerned about the cost. I gotta tell ya, I sure appreciate what John Rostie did with this coach. It shows he had a great deal of class and good taste. Its regrettable he didn't get a chance to enjoy it more, but I'm sure he was proud of his work when he saw the result. I think it was worth the cost to him.

I am out of Xtreme and MOT finally. Weaver at Mot got the door remote  control working, It failed when the entrance door was removed for the new rubber gasket, on  the 01 320, there are about a dozen wires in the harness between the door and the  frame.  Think it got cut with side cutters as the original computer board went up in smoke.  a new updated model is all that is now available, different wiring, and became a problem for Rance, who worked hard for two days on it. Anyway Weaver solved it and when installing the new replacement push button displlay on door, he accidently messed up the paint job on door.  So back to Xtreme for the door repaint job.  AMEN, it is all done and I left Xtreme this morning.
Am glad I had the full paint job done including roof, at first I thought it was way expensive, but after seeing what is done and the man hours involved and the BASF Glasurit paint, I feel it was a just price.
Must say that Xtreme is a top quality shop both in attitude and performance, I will be back for the rear door conversion and Rance will change my air intake to engine from top center to high on left side like the new coaches are now doing.  Love & trust that shop as much as MOT . :)

Nearly forgot, the lack of noise, sounding like a vent window open is sweet.

I am now parked at Flying J in Jackson (Peral), MS.  Fuel 3.07 after discount.

Happy learning how the new HID Xenon low beams are working, more amazing than I expected, Also Rance moved the low beams further forward in the hole, so now the side light is way way better, can see where to turn now, love it.  Glad I had the extra turn signals added to rear tire area and added the two red LED lights on rear side, with the new LED trail lights, there is no side red light that is visable.
Should be home Thursday if no weather issues.

Merry Christmas all
