Mirror Motors

We recently purchased a 1994 U300 4000 Foretravel. I have found that the driver side convex mirror (lower) does not move the same distances as the passanger side one. I would assume they should have the same range of motion if working properly. Now it is under a cover with snow on it so any repair will have to wait until spring but am looking to find out some information.

Does anyone know if the motors should move the same range? What is needed and how do you remove the mirror to get to the motor to check/grease/repair/replace them?

Jim,
The mirror is held in place by industrial velcro.  It's not easily separated, but I've done it...be patient and gentle.  Also, if the amount of travel of the mirror is diminished, it's likely due to having been manually moved to an extreme position and the motor & gear relationship is out of wack.  It needs to be recentered.  I think you can figure out how to recenter it and do a trial & error adjustment testing with the mirror adjuster in the driver's position.
 
Good luck...now you just have to remember to do it when the weather allows...

The convex mirror portion of my Ramco mirrors are held in place by RTV adhesive. You might want to check with the mfg.

Jim,

Make sure that the mirror with limited range isn't at the travel limit in the other direction.  That would limit range and be normal.

Jim and Ann,
Welcome to the wonderful world of Foretravel ownership from the southwestern end of the state, very close to the often coldest place in the nation, Bradford, Pa. 

Knowing what the temperatures are up that way, I suggest you leave things alone unless the motorhome is inside a heated garage.  I have not had to mess with my mirror adjustment, but do suggest you procede cautiously sometime near the end of the month of May.

Thanks for all the information. I am not planning on any maintenance until the temp is much higher (6 degrees this AM). As a newbie I am so glad that there are forums like this one to help me through some of the minor issues that arise.

Come south and you can work on your mirror ALMOST any time.  Here in Houston it is in the 50's right now and the high tomorrow is expected to be 70.
