Recalls

I found a recall announcement at the following site:

How can I determine if this recall does apply to our 1997 U270 and if so, whether it has already been done or not?

 That particular recall does not appear to affect the 1997 models.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MOTOR HOMES EQUIPPED WITH AQUA-HOT HEATING SYSTEMS, MODEL 431-3 ZONE WITH ENGINE LOOP. FIBERGLASS INSULATING MATERIAL LOCATED UNDER THE BURNER HEAD ON THE FLOOR OF THE HEATER ENCLOSURE, CAN BECOME SOAKED WITH FLUIDS (ETHYLENE GLYCOL AND/OR DIESEL FUEL). 
Consequence: 
IF AN ELECTRICAL SHORT OCCURS, A FIRE COULD RESULT. 
Remedy: 
VEHICLE SYSTEMS INC. WILL CONDUCT THE OWNER NOTIFICATION FOR THIS CAMPAIGN. DEALERS WILL REMOVE THE INSULATION FROM BENEATH THE DIESEL HEATING UNIT AS WELL AS FROM BEHIND THE CONTROL THERMOSTAT AND AIR-CONDITIONING HEATING ELEMENT ACCESS COVERS.

OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN DURING JULY 1998. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR MOTOR HOMES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT FORETRAVEL AT 1-800-955-6226 OR VEHICLE SYSTEMS INC. AT 1 800-685-4289. ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236). 
 

 
Foretravel should be about to tell you if they recall has been taken care of.

  And if you are looking for recall or service bullitens, use the following site because it is direct from the National Traffic Highway Safety Administration,  http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/recalls/, and it has not been changed in any way or format.

I wondered about that, but it shows Mfg Start as 19970723 and Mfg End as 19991014.  Is it possible that any unit started in 1997 after 7/23/1997 was a 1998 model year unit and not a 1997 model year unit?

Entirely possible.  It seems that you are right on the cusp.  A phone call to Foretravel will be pinpoint the exact information, and I am sure that Foretravel will take the matter very seriously and do what is necessary.

Thank you.  I think I will check our data plate next time I am at the coach to see if it gives a date of manufacture.  If so and if the date is prior to 7/23/1997, I don't think I will bother them.  But if it is after 7/23/1997, I think I probably will call Foretravel to see if it applies to our coach.

It appears that this affected 336 units.  141 were inspected and remedied and another 141 were inspected and did not require remedy.  That means that 54 units appear to have not been inspected.

Interesting...I will definitely check our date of manufacture if it is on the data plate and contact Foretravel if it is after 7/23/1997 or if I cannot find a date of manufacture listed.

Our coach does not have an AquaHot system. It has the propane furnace heat.  Thank you very much for listing that recall also.

The only recall I have been able to locate that MIGHT apply to our coach is the one for the potential for the motor shaft to spin inside the windshield wiper drive arm.

I recall from past service visits to FT, they can bring up past history (as performed by FT) and recall information pretty easily with the coach number (5023 in your case, thanks to your profile  ;) )

I seem to recall this happening for our coach with the transmission retarder bracket - our service order/receipt had a no-charge line item for "Campaign such and such" inspect bracket.

I'd just give 'em a jingle (probably Mark Harvey?).

Thank you very much!!  I will contact them, probably right after 1/1/11.....

BTW, does this forum list or have a link to check for recalls?  My thoughts are that with us "newbies" purchasing used coaches, we don't know what recalls might affect our unit so we can verify status.  I accidentally located the one in question somehow.  I don't recall how I found it.

There is a decal under my dash cover that says "windshield  wiper recall #00V-047". I assume that means it has been taken care of.
