New Address & Phone # for King Cruise/Throttle repair

Today, I removed, boxed, and mailed my King Throttle control for repair/refurbish.  Steve Boller tells me he has a new address and phone contact:

This throttle control/cruise control is used on mid-to-late 90's mechanical Cummins engines.  The newer electronic-control engines made these units obsolete.  Steve can fix them....  :D

Thanks for the update.

And the King Control electronic cruise control makes a great refit in early 1990's coaches with the obsolete Bendix cruise as well.

You can use the same driver control, wire from front to back, etc.  Makes for a pretty easy installation and is more precise than the old Bendix unit.

Steve is great on troubleshooting.

Four hundred and ninety four dollars later, I reinstalled my rebuilt King Throttle last week after cleaning and greasing (dielectric) all connections.  Although not needed, I received rapid service from Steve Boller for this rebuild.  I had explained to him that I was in no hurry, that I lived on the side of a mountain at 8,000 feet and that it would be months before the road to my house was passable for other than 4-wheel drive vehicles.  (Mormons, Jehovah Witness, UPS, firetrucks, and ambulances can not get up here!)

Steve replaced a circuit board and a new motor and a bushing for the motor plus six other parts.  He explained that I had done nothing wrong and that there is no preventive action on my part to forestall another failure.  His returned Sales Order mentioned a "browned wire going to the motor."  A "search" of King Throttle on this website shows that many owners of mechanically controlled Cummins have had problems with this component.

I wish to thank Neal and a couple of Barry's for their assistance and concern with my partial power problem and the solutions they offered.  I was stymied after changing fuel filters, insuring that my fuel was okay, and wondering what to check next:  transmission? other fuel controlling devices?  After explaining their troubles and solutions to this same problem, they even followed up weeks later--asking me by way of email--what my final outcome was.

This was after I had cleaned the brake switch connections (recommended) and run a wire directly from a brake light ground terminal to the start battery ground (also recommnented).  Hopefully, next Spring, I will find that my partial power problems are gone.  Andy1

Our 1997 U295 has an air throttle. The previous owner had FOT install the air throttle after he had problems with the King throttle. I think the system still uses the King cruise control. The throttle and cruise control work well. Our only problems have been an occasional glitch when a brake light switch sticks. After a brief "sticky" period, the brake light switches have worked well.
