Replace original monitor

I have the original Audit 700 monitor in my GV. Unfortunately it has the audit images burned in. Can I reroute the rear camera feed to a 12V 7" monitor with minimal change? >:(

Nitehawk,
As long as the monitor can display a mirror image it isn't hard. Call Tim @ RV cams 877-378-2267 and he can talk you through the steps. We changed ours out in our 92 and it took less than an hour.

Nitehawk,

I want to add my plug to call Tim at RVCams too.  He helped me change out my monitor and camera.  He knows what to do and has the adapters to make mine a plug and play 15 minute install for the monitor and 15 more minutes for the camera.

Thanks for the information. I will have to wait to do anything as we are leaving here on the thirteenth of January for warmer climes. Right now the crystalline white h2o is falling and the temp is minus 3 degrees so minimum work beside loading the GV is being done. Of course we have to watch the G.B. Packers this sunday.

Check out this info.
Foretravel - Javelina Monitor replacment
I did the same thing to my coach. The monitors are available on e-bay for around $60. You can mount it right on the dash instead of cutting it out. Greg was a great contributor to the Yahoo forum but no longer has his coach, I miss his very informative posts.
Good luck,
Rick

The hardest thing is finding a good place to mount the 7" monitor. All you need is a plug to convert the wire end to match the new monitor. I replaced the Old Audit screen with a SeaLevel II tank monitor system. This was pretty easy and I loved having the more accurate tank levels.

You can go to a pro as Rudy suggested and they will get you everything you need but you will pay a considerably higher price and you will also probably get better equipment, or buy from ebay as I did and find the converter plug yourself. I would like to help you but I had to remove the Audit box and wire direct from the camera to the new monitor. If you Audit is working OK go through the box. It will work better.

Kent,
Have you thought of replacing your radio with an all in one unit with flip up monitor like a Jensen VM9312 using the same space as your radio.

Barry, The 7" monitor problem was with my U225. I finally permanently attached it on the left side of the dash. The Jensen would have been a nice alternative. However, my past experience with Jensen radios and camcorders was very poor, although this was 30 years ago. Have you had good experience with Jensen electronics?

It has worked flawless for me for a couple of years.
Because of space I needed a unit that could accept all the inputs I had including 2 video inputs for Camera & Javalina tanks & have the video image rightside up.

It will still be there. You are just using the video signal from the Audit control box and feeding it to the new monitor.

So, in other words, there are two video inputs to the new monitor?..one for the rear view camera and another from the Audit box?

Peter,
There is only 1 video input into the monitor. Look at the center picture in my earlier post of today and you will see the black cable going off to the upper right. That is a coax cable that goes to the Audit controller. On my coach there is a dash mounted 3 position switch to control the display of; camera, tank levels, temperature/compass.

Here is a P/M that I sent to someone. In the future I will respond to the main board so that I don't have to repeat the info. The e-bay info may be outdated and I notice that the prices have inched up but you can probably still find some that are less expensive.
Good luck,

Headrest Monitor 5.6 inch Car TFT LCD PAL NTSC monitor - eBay (item 320630888378)

Greg Jones was the one who mentored me through this change. Once into it I found out how simple it really is. Basically, the Audit control box has a video output signal and you can simply unplug the existing monitor and plug in any video screen, even your TV. You just have to get the connectors to interface with each other. By interface all I mean is to mechanically connect it. To connect mine I did have to buy one oddball adaptor that Radio Shack did not have. The only issue with using a TV is that the image may be reversed but the picture will still be there, your tank levels and temperature/compass will show in reverse also. A basic rear seat headrest monitor is what I used and it had a reverse image function but not sure if it was advertised that way. Greg J. gave me the e-bay link and I was able to get the same one he used. That was well over a year ago and not sure if the same one is available. I think it was a 6" screen and that size will fit
directly in the dash (you have to enlarge the existing cutout), a larger one may have to be mounted externally but that is no problem at all and someone had posted earlier on the forum that they had mounted it externally. I think they had a picture of the installation also. A nice side benefit of the change is getting that big old Audit monitor out of the dash as it will free up a lot of room under the dash. The link I show here is a very similar looking unit. A deeper search may find others. There is a frame around the monitor but the self contained monitor comes out of that frame and can be installed in the dash. For external mounting you would keep the frame and just attach it to the dash from the hole of the old monitor. The assembly without the frame is about ½" thick and with the frame maybe 1". Mine is mounted with the frame in place. It does not say whether the image is reversible or not but I suspect that they all are but you can call them to
find out. 7" units would probably fit externally.

Next project, hope this will be easier  then the last one .  Here goes, I have the Audit 1860 so that is the Audit 800 CRT display is that correct ?  Earlier I asked about the select switch how it changes the screen to tank Levels, Does that mean that there is 2 inputs ?  What is the make of the 7 inch monitor on the video? And it came from E-Bay?    And what all do I need to change over ?  Thanks  Art      What Model is this monitor?

Talked to Tim at Tims Cams and he said if you change the monitor to a color LED screen you will have to change the camera to a color camera. He sells Voyager equipment, top of the line but expensive. I liked the Video from Greg Smith ?  How easy and inexpensive it was to install .  Any comments on the subject  ?  Thanks  Art

I know this has undoubtedly been discussed endlessly, but we're looking at our options for upgrading the OEM monitor and cameras; read and side. Obviously, compatibility with the Audit 8T8 is desired. I'd love to hear from those whom have done this regards type of system, sourcing, installation, etc.

We replaced our B&W camera with color and attached a new color monitor to the face of the old B&W one.  But, we have never been able to get the tank readings to display correctly.  If we do change them to read from left to right it shows the image from the rear of the motorhome backwards.  We have learned how to live with reading our tank gauges backwards.

Thanks, Barry; I actually did paw-through the information on the ForeForum site. And, I've been talking to Tim at RV Cams as he's the reputed authority on such upgrades. When I mentioned my side-view cameras to Tim, however, things got convoluted; questions about "are those cameras also mirrored-image", "how are they wired", etc. He has the same pdf Audit diagram I'm using, but ..... Hence, I'm looking for some "been there, done that" guidance from this austere group. See you in UT?

Depending on the year of the Javalina camera/monitor the camera OR the monitor is set to "reverse image".

It may be that you have to set the other device to reverse image (assuming you bought a camera and monitor that have that feature.

Start by setting the monitor (straight or reverse image) to display the tank audit readout properly. Then set the camera to make sure left is left/right is right on the rear view display.

When I replaced mine, Tim at RV.cams went through this with me.
