Interior cabinet struts

I need a source for the interior struts on overhead cabinets.  I did do a search here and  on Barry's site, but did not find one.

Edited:  I need an on-line source.

George,
The last dozen I bought came from Encore RV three or four months ago.  I don't remember for sure how much they cost, but I'm sure it was less than $10 each.

I have bought them from the parts department at Tennessee RV and I remember them as less than $10, also.

I need an on-line source.  Not very practical to return to Nac or Tennessee to buy struts.

Three years ago I found replacements at Moore Industrial Hardware Cincinnati, Ohio.  Gas Spring on Moore Industrial Hardware

Springlift in AK went out of business, so you may have to find a replacement using the extended/compressed lengths, gas pressure etc.  Moore may have bought Springlift's stock or someone else may be making them.  Doubt if you will find them for $10, more like $16, but let us know if you do.

George, if you call Encore they will ship to you.  I am in NAC at the present time. If you find Encore's price is right and they won't ship let me know and I will pick them up and ship to you.  Try FOT also, but am sure you can find a better price elsewhere.

George,

We've ordered parts over the phone from both MOT and FOT and had them shipped to us.  The downside is that you'll likely pay sales tax, but it might be an option to consider.

Jeff,

Thanks for that information.  I did not think Encore would do mail orders. I called and spoke with Jenny McGrath.  If they have the parts, they will ship four to me.  Gets a little complicated with us being at a camp ground with no cell service.

ForeForums ROCKS and so do you.

Thanks to others for the suggestions

George,
It's called a telephone.  Give Bob McGrath a call ((936) 569-1600) and he will ship them just the same as any on line source would, assuming he still has them in stock.

I bought some from Cabelas on line.  They were Atwood brand and quite satisfactory - slightly heavier than the originals, I think (but hard to tell, since the reason I was replacing the originals was...er...)

01-6104 Attwood Springlift Gas Springs

They were $16.80 in 2008.  Not sure if they still carry them, but probably only on line, since I did check at the Cabelas main store in Nebraska when we went through, and they didn't have any on hand in the store.

Paul,
Well thank you for the idea. Geez. I never even gave the phone a thought.

Seriously. We have AT&T cellular service. Their motto should be: Poorest coverage in the United States.

I called Encore from a pay phone this afternoon. Jenny took my order and will ship if they have any in stock. We full-timers sometimes have to do without the best of modern conveniences.

George,
Don't think any cell provider has service where you are at.  Maybe with a bag phone or a linear amplifier for your cell phone.  But not with a regular phone.

Got my cabinet struts in the morning mail from Encore.  They were $9.50 each plus $10 total for S&H.  Part # is C7621696 - 745.  The measurement given is 4 and 7/8 inches long.  The length  is just for the gas cylinder and does not include the strut.  I did not know this.

Not only did I get fast shipping but a nice hand-written note tucked into the package.  I am satisfied with their service.

Bay door struts for older Foretravels - they are available

Greetings all,

My first post here. Just took possession of a 1991 U225. My first coach.

I have what is a common problem with the older Foretravels - worn out bay door struts. I searched the forum, and from threads in the archives, the issue appeared to be one of the manufacturer going out of business and Foretravel running out of stock. I did some digging yesterday morning, and made some phone calls, and found out the following:

The original mfr, Spring Lift Corporation, was bought by Atwood Marine. Atwood still manufactures these struts - in fact, when I called them, was told they currently have over 800 pieces in stock ready to ship. Here is a link to the OEM gas struts page --> OEM Gas Springs : Gas Springs : Attwood . The part number on my existing struts is SL 3-20; the replacement part number is SL3-20-1.

Atwood does not sell directly, but these can be ordered online or by phone at Back to Boating --> Back to Boating Boat Parts - Featuring Attwood Gas Springs, Bilge Pumps, . The struts are drop shipped from Atwood directly to you.

Hope this helps someone out.

Steve, I'll add my welcome too. This forum has helped me a bunch. If you haven't already, take a few minutes to visit Barry's site here: Barry and Darlene Brideau's Personal Website. A tremendous amount of information on Foretravels and still growing. Dick

Thank you kindly Dick. I actually stumbled onto Barry's site first when trying to research Foretravels, and found this forum a little while after that.  :D I've read through about 3/4 of Barry's site now.

Just thought to pass on something regarding struts for the older coaches - I read a few posts from late last year advising that Foretravel was/had run out of stock, which is why I searched online for a source. However, in speaking with Mike Grimes at the Foretravel parts department today, I was told they had all kinds of struts on hand - bay doors, interior, etc. I ordered a pair for the bed (big ones) at the silly price of $18 each, vs the $28 each I paid elsewhere for bay door struts (much smaller).

So, as I learned today - if you need parts, call Foretravel first. Not only are they very likely to have them in stock (all the odd bits I asked about they had on hand, and are on their way), but their prices are generally better than elsewhere, with a Motorcade discount to boot.
