wheel art

So what do you suppose it means that I have one tag axle wheel that looks like a spirograph?

I have these shoots of black (grease/oil/?) coming from around the center hub cap.  When I say shoots its just a matter of whatever this black stuff is... oozing and getting spun out in retro art form thanks to my drive down I-95. 

Is this a big issue or can I go from Florida to Nac before it's examined closer?

It sounds like a leaking seal. A truck repair shop should be able to fix you up. It also depends on how serious a leak it is.  If it is pretty bad then you can have an issue. If it is just like spider web size you might not. It is hard to tell without seeing it.

Agreed - can you pull the decorative cap off the hub and check the levels?  See these great photos from Neal, plus the thread in general.

thanks all, that hub seal thread covered it all. 

we've been sitting still for the past few days and no fluid on the ground so don't think the leak is to bad.  i'll do my mechanic imitation today or tomorrow and take a look at fluid levels.  I went ahead and set up an appointment at a truck service center in st. augustine for friday AM

From your description, coming from under the hub cap, my guess would be the hub is simply over filled with oil.  All Tag and Front wheels will do that if over filled with oil.  The oil seal is behind the wheel, if your getting oil inside and on brakes etc, then be looking at wheel seal.
