HWH Hydraulic Fluid for Slide

Does anyone know where I could get the undyed hydraulic fluid for my slide? I would like to find some locally, but NAPA doesn't carry it and the Camping World near me didn't have it.
Thanks.

Bob, I called Camping World in Roanoke and they didn't have any. There is Tom Johnson's RV dealership but they are almost 3 hours away. I was hoping to find some fluid closer.

Aren't there any little RV places around.  I've had much better luck with the local RV shops and dealers that I have had with the big guys.

Me too, but have a number of little shops/dealers within a hours drive.  But the big ones are a couple hours away.  Dig out that phone book and see if you can find any.

I am sure I will find the oil tomorrow, there are two RV dealers in Mt. Airy NC about 45 min. to 1 hr from me, if not I will put regular transmission oil in it and order the good stuff from HWH. I just hope this correct my problem.

Call HWH.

Get a list of acceptablealternate fluids OR the Mil Specs for acceptable fluids.  This shouldn't be rocket science.

From HWH web site.  If you use Dexron, if it leaks, it will stain.

HWH Specialty Hydraulic Oil - ML23835.pdf

Material Safety Data Sheets
HWH Low Temp Hydraulic Oil 12/1Qt - http://www.hwhcorp.com/L-10700B(HWH47369).pdf
HWH Specialty Hydraulic Oil 12/1Qt (Warren Dist.) -  http://www.hwhcorp.com/L-10700A(HWH22866,WarrenDist).pdf
HWH Super ATF, Undyed Automatic Transmission Fluid (Conoco) -  http://www.hwhcorp.com/L-10700(HWH22866,Conoco).pdf

Only use one of the following synthetic fluids to replace the existing ATF in the system.
These fluids are compatible with Dexron ATF or HWH Specialty Hydraulic Oil.
Castrol Heavy Duty Lubricants - TranSynd
BP Lubricants - Autrand Syn 295
Cognis Corporation - Emgard 2805
International Truck and Engine Company - Fleetrite Synthetic ATF
Exxon Mobil Lubricants - Mobil Delvac Synthetic ATF
John Deere & Company - HD SynTran
Volvo Trucks North America - Bulldog Synthetic ATF

And if it is dyed and the system leaks, it will leave stains.

Camping World carries HWH fluid, there item # 20763. It is my understanding that all stores have it in stock.  Camping Worlds main # is 1-888-626-7576 if you need help.

Delvac syn atf is for your transmission.
Jeff,
The Mobil Delvac Synthetic ATF and other fluids are right from the HWH web site.  http://www.hwhcorp.com/ml46791.pdf.  And here is the link for specs on their own HWH oil that they have refined in their name:  HWH Hydraulic Oil.

The Mobil DTE is not listed by them.

The cap on top of the tank  is also a dip stick, you will need a small funnel or a hand held pump to fill it,

Ben,

Thank you so much.  I honestly did not know what that box was for.  I will check the fluid level tomorrow.  You have been very helpful.

George,

You'll want to check with James Triana to find out whether to check your hydraulic fluid level with the slide in or out, unless it's in one of your manuals.  IIRC in some coaches you need the slide out, in others you want the slide in.  I know Steve had to call him and find out for our coach.

Thanks, Michelle, for catching my back. I will certainly find out. I've made a few mistakes due to lack of correct information. Don't want to do anything that is going to cause a problem.

Hopefully, the owner of a 2000 w/slide will chime in. No local phone service here, so it is tough when I have to leave a message and don't know when to drive back to where we get a strong cell signal. But that goes hand in hand with full-timing.

Thanks again.

Re: HWH Hydraulic Fluid for Slide -- Am I Low????

I don't want to assume.  I unscrewed the cap on the HWH hydraulic fluid reservoir and found fluid just barely touching the bottom line (see photo).  Does this mean I am low, BUT within a safe operating level?

Also,  I don't want to be penny wide and pound foolish, but ordering a quart from HWH seems like a very expensive way to get it.  Is there some readily available hydraulic oil that is compatible with what HWH installs?

Thank you.

The fluid level should be between the two marks with jacks stowed (after using the normal/correct stow procedure).  By using the correct procedure, you insure that fluid is not trapped in those long lines to the jacks.
