Decoding Model Numbers

Howdy,

I am considering purchasing a 1994 U280 Grandvilla.

From reviewing MANY forum discussions, I have been able to decode the first 13 positions in its model number. The last seven positions are somewhat cryptic to me. They are:

    . . . U280WE21

The U280 is kind of obvious, although I have not seen them in any of the examples that were discussed.

It seems that it should be telling me the chassis and engine type, but WE21 does not mean anything to me.

Anyone of y'all know what they mean?

Thanks,

Trent

It means Model U280 with C8.3 300hp engine
WE21 is the factory code for the engine.

Berry is absolutely correct about the E21 code being a Cummins 8.3 300 hp, but it also tells us the coach has an Allison MD3060R transmission.  six speed with retarder

The W tells us that it is an early wide body. 102"

Well, well, well, that avatar sure looks like the factory logo! How about that? Wonderful, I think it's great.
No RV! Have hung up the keys.
In the past: 2016 Winnebago Era, 1994 Foretravel U240, 1995 Foretravel U240 (wide body), 1999 Foretravel 320, 36 Foot, 2003 Foretravel U320 38 foot,

In my example (U280WE21), The full chassis description is "U280W", which means Unihome280, 102", or is the W a separate model number field?
Is there any significance to the "early" part of your description?

The E21 says all of that?!!!

Is there somewhere we can find out the meaning of all of the other engine/transmission codes that are used in Foretravel Model Numbers?

Thanks again for your decision to join our group and provide the REAL information.

Previously, Foretravel responded to my question about the E21 part of a model number:

E21 code being a Cummins 8.3 300 hp, but it also tells us the coach has an
Allison MD3060R transmission.  six speed with retarder

I appreciate the information, but now need to know about the E22 and E24 engine/transmission codes. They are both on (different) 1995 40' U320C-SE's.

I think the E24 is a Cummins M11 400 h.p. with Allison HD4060R, but am not sure.

The E22 is probably similar, but I do not know the difference between the 22 and 24.

Thanks to any kind soul who can answer these questions.
