M-11 Fuel Filter Questions

Hi All,
My 1997 U -320 has what I think is a discontinued fuel filter. I'm attaching pictures of the filter, and what ever the plastic bag with it is. The other picture is the control panel for priming the filter. Is the Racor RK12963 retrofit kit what I need to replace this filter? Will the existing control panel still be useable? Is there anything else I would need to replace this?
  Thanks,
  Raymond

Raymond, I just had mine replaced down at Cummins in CLoverdale.  I had them put on the Raycor model 790R30 as a replacement. The O rings in mine had disintegrated and it was letting in air.  The new fuel they said is the issue.  I put on the racor replacement and it is pretty easy to do but I have a 42 foot so mine is in the rear and they needed to weld on a new mounting bracket to get it to fit. I had one replaced on my 2000 behind the wheel and all I had to do was drill new holes to mount it.

Hi Raymond.

Check this article out on Barry's website: Racor RK12963 Retrofit Kit If I read it correctly, the Racor S3230P filter is used with the rk-12963 conversion kit. Also, the S3230P filter seems to be readily available both online and locally (at least here on MD Eastern Shore).

I replaced the Winn fuel/water seperator on my 1996 U320 with the 790R30 which I purchased for less than $300 from Monaco stock via eBay. The issue with the Winn system was sucking air into the fuel filter because the "O" rings on the clear container compressed the necks of the clear container and were no longer air tight. The condition of the "O" rings was good. The problem was the top and bottom necks on the see through container were too small a diameter to seal.

Hi Wyatt,
Did the existing control panel (see my picture) work with your new replacement?

Raymond, my unit came with it's own power supply box.  Same size just one button though.

The old control box has a timer circuit and shuts off the pump; the 790R30 pumjp runs as long as the button is pushed. It therefore must be installed close to the filter system so that the flow of diesel fuel from the Schrader valve starts, the button can be released.

I did not attempt to connect the exisitng Winn panel to the new Racor unit for three reasons. Firstly, I did not find standing at the back engine door to be convenient when the fuel/water seperator was behind the battery door on the side, so I could not see the "see through bowl" when at the control panel. The second concern was that the Winn control would run the purge pump for 30 seconds and most of the time only 10 or 15 seconds was required to clear air. The third reason is that the Winn unit had a 12 volt powered water purge valve which would only activate if water was sensed, while the Racor has a manual valve on a clear bottom bowl. I used the Racor control, which I installed behind the battery door after installing two indicator LED lights, one for "power on" and one for "water present". I plan to install a "water present" light in the dash. I also installed a 12 volt switch in the Racor control box so that I can turn it on with the ignition off.

I also was not impressed with the water bag on the Winn unit, and there was no easy way to use the Winn auto water purge valve with the Racor unit.
