Re: Check Engine Light

We had a chronic "check engine" light on our '95 U320 with a 400hp M-11. Sometimes it would go away after running down the road for a bit, sometimes not. MOT did the diagnostics and the error code came back as a bad coolant temp sensor. They cleaned the sensor and replaced it. Light went off for a time, but then reappeared. New sensor installed. Light went away for a time, but then reappeared. The temp on the dash gauge always read just fine, as did the Silverleaf. But it is disconcerting to see that message, so we asked MOT to address the issue again. This time, they replaced the sending unit that the sensor plugs into. Problem solved. What I heard ... although I do not know if it is gospel ... is that If the "Stop Engine" message is a steady ON, and all your gauges are good, keep running and just watch closely. If it is BLINKING at you, get off the highway and shut down. Dunno ... Others would know better than I if that is true.
