Rear and Side camera/monitor:

Sorry for "hijacking". In the old system you could simply change the topic; however not so in this "modern" version, apparently. Again, Sorry. Still looking for some guidance of cameras/monitor upgrade. It seems the side-vision cameras are causing several venders to ask questions I can't (currently) answer. Any assistance appreciated.

Chad & Judy,

Not sure what kind of info you are looking for. Here is the post I sent David. Once you have the camera (color cameras with lighting are cheap) , you can use almost any kind of a monitor but nice to have one that does a mirror image, reverse left & right and has several inputs so U can bring in several cameras if you need to. Lots of switches on ebay that can switch between inputs if monitor only has one. Here is my post from today:

David,
My camera fogged up on the lens also. I replaced it with a color camera and installed a 7" lcd color monitor that I mounted in the middle just above the slide out tray. The cost for camera and monitor delivered was less than $100 out of Hong Kong on eBay. The monitor has a selectable mirror image as well as reverse images left and right. Even has a remote control.  Has a couple of inputs so you can mount another camera, perhaps to catch the blind spot down below the passenger's seat or video in from a GPS, etc. The U300 manual has a good schematic so you can figure out the wires coming from the rear. Wiring is EZ. Here is the link to the 7" monitor ($56.30 delivered) : http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180629450210&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

The camera will work with the existing monitor if you don't want to get rid of the CRT. A little cramped working above the bed but pretty straight forward. Naturally no color.

Another (and cheapest) option would be to remove the existing camera, drill a vent hole in it, put it in the sun for a day and then plug the hole with silicone and replace.

Let me know if you would like photos of the installation.

Best,

Chad,
What kind of questions are the vendors asking that you can't answer?

My coach has what are apparently (according to the Tim L. and James T.) not "standard OEM" side cameras. My coach was a custom-build, and the original owner apparently added the side-cameras along with a 3rd A/C and some other nice touches. The question is whether or not the image from these "optional" cameras have a mirrored image. It's my opinion they're likely the same as the rear camera, as they all route through a three-position switch (select left-right-rear) then the Audit 8T8 and finally to the monitor. RV-Cams is fairly familiar with Foretravel, but this, Tim claims, is "new". Thinking I'll just replace the rear camera and monitor and deal with side cameras as a separate issue.
